Based on the results of the posttests, it was evident that the activities and manipulative tools in my lesson helped to improve students’ grades, as all students met the objective. According to the Problem Solving Evaluation Table, I would rate all of the students that I worked with as “average” or “above average.” All of the students grasped the concept, however, some of them took longer to make generalizations. In the film The Scarlet and the Black, we see a different kind of priest portrayed. Fr. Hugh O’Flaherty is not your everyday pastor. After seeing what type of life he has lived, the priesthood may look appealing to many. He is constantly helping people and getting in and out of trouble. The situations he finds himself in may not necessarily be because he is a priest, but rather because of the type of person he is. Fr. O’Flaherty’s drive and desire to help people makes him a saint to many people. Many priests probably would not have gone to the extent that Fr. O’Flaherty went to in helping the soldiers. He was close to death many times, but continued to fight for freedom. Some parts of this film, to me, seemed over done in the idea that Fr. O’Flaherty was some type of superhero. The first teaching strategy mentioned is co-operative learning strategy. In which, students can use think-pair-share, peer-tutoring, or group assignments to work together to learn how to solve mathematical equations. The purpose of co-operative learning is that students can benefit from teaching each other, sharing ideas, and clarifying their own thinking processes while working together in groups of two or more. For instance, teachers can create worksheets or quizzes that are a bit more challenging than the student’s homework so the students will need to work as a group to solve all the problems. And, if they all get the same grade than they will be more to likely communicate together, share their work, and ideas with each other to attain the best grade possible. Additionally, since group assignments or activities are based on the need for students to compare their work and answers with one another, discuss the ways in which they solved an equation, and justify why their answer is right will help reinforce what they previously learned, thereby encouraging students to participate more in group activities and more inclined to enjoying math.…
When I received my test , I would run fast through the pages like a lightning bolt and go all the way towards the end of the booklet to see what the prompts for the essay were. I was one of those students who would always raise their hands for extra paper so that I could write a rough draft first and then write my story on the dark black lines of the final draft paper. Once the students were able to break down their errors they were able to see if there was a common factor (which is interesting being that this was a math assignment) to which the student was having issues understanding. In this pre-cal 11 class, some students are facing a tremendous difficulty because they don’t give this course their best try, and the reason for that may be they don’t understand how important this course is. For a while, I keep receiving some very 'basic' type of questions from few students, which kind of confused me because those questions are not challenging and Ms.Wagner has certainly go over it. My first thought was that they don’t understand the teacher’s interpretation; however, after few sentences of brief explanation, they can figure out the right answer without having me finish my sentence. Later during the class time, while the teacher is teaching, I observe on those students and discovered that they are not tent to listen to the class. They whether day dreaming or dawdling. Those students are very smart, their minds are brilliant; as you can see, some of them are able to figure out the answer with few clues. The only difference between them and those ‘stong’students is that they don’t give the course a try. Therefore, I believe I can draw a conclusion to say that some students are not quite successful is because they don’t know to do the right thing at right time. For these students, it's important to let them know how important math is. So, my strategy is to try to let them deal with some more math application problems that deal with real life situations.…
As a teacher candidate, when reflecting back on the SMART board activity I felt there were many strengthens to it. The activities on the SMART board were a review for the students on what they learned previously, which required students to display their knowledge in multiple ways. When I was planning this lesson, I incorporated several UDL solutions to vary the instruction and appeal to the needs of diverse learners. The three main UDL solutions I focused on were multiple means of representation, multiple means of expression, and multiple means of engagement. The UDL solution multiple means of representation in my lesson plan allowed students to hear the measurements read aloud, as well as see them on their computer screen, thus providing input for both audio and visual learners. The UDL solution multiple means of expression in my lesson plan allowed students to get the chance to express their answers in both a written and a verbal way.
