Saint Philip Neri did not do this to teach the man a lesson, he did it to look like a fool. The scripture says that “the wisdom this world is foolish with God, and the foolishness of God is wiser than men.” Saint Philip Neri was a holy fool. He lived a life of such humility that a regular human being could not begin to understand. Saint Philip Neri lived a full happy life. Near the end of his life he suffered from a illness and died on May 26th, 1595. His feast day is May 26th.
Like Jesus, Saint Philip Neri was dedicated to help people convert to Christianity. He wanted to bring hope and love to the poor sinners. He had the ability to read souls and contributed many miracles. In one of his miracles he bi-located, which is a psychic ability in which an individual or object is located in two distinct places at the same time. When he bi-located, he pulled a young man who was drowning up out of the sea and pulled him to shore and then disappeared.
