Why am I studying psycholoy?
Why am I studying psychology? I came to the conclusion that I’m studying psychology to better understand people. With me having more knowledge about psychology will also help me to know more about myself. When I am able to understand more about people, it will help me to better work with them. Psychology actually helps me to view what the other person may be feeling or what their thinking. Deciding to learn more about psychology wasn’t hard for me because it seemed like an interesting subject.
What I’ve learned so far in class has made me look at a lot of situations and people differently. When imp in class listening to my professor teach us about psychology, I always sit there and think, “Wow I didn’t know that!” its so many concepts and things that are talked about that make you want to know more. If I would have known half the things I do then, I would have taken psychology way before now.
When it comes to my future career psychology will definitely help me a lot. My major is biology I don’t know what exactly I want to do with my degree as far as my career goes because there are plenty of options. I do know that it’s going to be a career involved in the medical field. I was thinking maybe a physician or a physician’s assistant. Dealing with patients will have a lot to do with psychology. I’ll have to be able to know how to best treat a patient when their feeling a certain way. I want to be able to relate to each patient and make sure their fully comfortable no matter what the situation may be. Hopefully whatever career choice I make, psychology plays a major part.

When I dream about my future, the job I can see my self being very passionate about is being a psychologist. A psychologist is a social scientist who studies behavior and mental processes. (“Psychologist”) In order for me to attain this dream I must get a Bachelor of Arts, a Masters Degree in psychology and possibly a Doctorate’s Degree in psychology depending on what kind of institution I would like to work in. I I will either receive a Ph. D. in psychology or a Doctor of Psychology (Psy. D.) degree and if I do, I will be able to work as a clinical, counseling or research psychologist. If I just decide to get my Master 's in psychology, then I could work as an industrial-organizational psychologist . I will need to take introductory psychology, experimental psychology, and statistics. The starting salaries of psychologists depends on whether they get their Master 's or Doctorate’s degree in psychology. Let 's look at the beginning salary for clinical, counseling, and school psychologists, this is where I would have to get a doctorate’s degree: I would earn…

I like how I would be able to either study the brain or help patients who are dealing with mental health issues. I would also be able to run my own studies on the brain and I would love to be able to do that. Somethings that I could see myself disliking about this career and major choice would be having to talk with people who are going through hard times. It would be hard not to let myself get upset with patients, or even get extremely upset when I am not able to help someone. Another thing that I would not find ideal is that the income for a psychologist is around 60,000. This is a great income, but it is not so great when I would have to attend graduate school to become a psychologist. There would be a lot of schooling involved for not a lot of monetary…

This course has given me a more humanistic view of fellow human beings. This is not to say that I did not before have compassion for other human’s beings; rather to say that my understanding of people and what they may be experiencing within their lives has changed some. We judge people everyday based on things such as appearance, speech and the like. If we look at things with a bit more empathy we can truly say that we can or have walked a mile in someone else's shoes. Many times sympathy takes control when really empathy should take hold. Personally, I implement new learning's into my everyday life. I learned to not be so quick to make a hasty decision and that actually hearing someone is different from just listening to them. Carl Rogers said this and I believe it has deep bearings within this course; "An assumption unusual in psychology today is that the subjective human being has an important value which is…

In Psychology there are so many different careers that have gained my interest because I love learning how people function, behave, and how the brain works. The first career that truly gained my full interest is Neuropsychologist. Neuropsychologists are the ones that explore not only the brain system but they also explore behavior and the relationship between the two. This is something that interests me more than I can put into words. One of the reasons I have so much interest in this type of career is because I myself have fetal alcohol syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as learning disorder. Being able to study the cognitive functions of the brain such as attention, language and memory I believe will eventually help me to understand more of my disabilities and how to work past them. A Neuropsychologist is also able to evaluate people who have various types of nervous system disorders. They work closely with doctors including neurologists. Illnesses, injuries, and diseases of the brain and nervous system can affect the way a person feels, thinks, and behaves and some of the symptoms may call for a neuropsychologist. Those symptoms are memory difficulties, mood disturbances, learning difficulties as…

<I’ve learned so much during this course and have truly grown as a person. I have never really been too open minded. I kind of stick to what I believe and no one can tell me otherwise. My grandma is really the only other person I really believe could tell me something and I would consider what she was saying as being correct. She influenced so much in my life. A lot of my decisions and choices I thought of her first or I would call and ask for her input. Without any extra questions or searching for other possible answers I would believe her almost instantly and go with what she said. During these few weeks I have learned to investigate all possibilities before making a decision so I can make the best one. My pride and my stubbornness also kept me from using critical thinking. Instead of taking the time to really analyze a problem and pick the best way to fix it I just did what I felt was the thing to do. During my time in this course I was taught the necessary steps to take in order to properly solve issues. I plan on utilizing everything I have learned for not only the rest of my academic time with the university of Phoenix , but for the rest of my life in and out of school or work.…

When I began college, I was undecided about what to study. Initially, I enrolled as Biology major. I majored in biology for three years of my college career. Because I was not happy or even satisfied, I decided to pursue studying a subject that genuinely grasped my interest. I knew in my heart that whatever I was searching for had to be something I would love doing for the rest of my life or at least most of it. Therefore, I went on an exploration to find that one particular area of study that would be of great significance to me and my future endeavors. I came across Psychology. I didn’t know much about it. All I knew was that I took it during my freshman year because it was a requirement to take Psychology 101. The entire time while I was reminiscing about this class, all I could remember was the professor lecturing about the human mind and why people do what they do. I found it to be sort of interesting and I said, “Hey, why not give it a try?”…

In this week’s module, which comprised of chapters 1-2 of Careers in Psychology along with instructor Gina Smith’s video, it was evident that the field of psychology is immense and continues to evolve. My impression of the subfield of clinical and counseling psychology was a combination of surprise and captivation. The reading and video painted a picture of rewarding career opportunities available to help people within mental health. It was surprising to learn of entry level career opportunities such as human services assistant roles, entry social worker, and substance abuse counselor available at the baccalaureate level. A variety of the information presented on clinical and counseling psychology was new to me, and created learning opportunities…
