Why Being Young is One of the Best Things Ever
Good afternoon everybody. Before I begin I have a couple of questions for you. First of all, have any one of you NEVER had a good memory from when you were young? I am sure that the answer is no. Or have any one of you ever dreaded the thought of being an adult or ever wish to be a child once more? I am certain that your answer will be yes. These are the reasons why I strongly disagree that being young is overrated.
One of the best benefits of being young is the fact that we’re allowed to make mistakes and we learn from the people around us. We grow not only physically but emotionally. We learn so much from the mistakes we make. It deepens our knowledge, it teaches us more about ourselves and greatly teaches us the value of forgiveness. We learn about our faults and how to fix them. Mistakes are a crucial part of being young.
Friends; you can’t live with them nor can you live without them. They’re one of the best parts of growing up. These are the days where we meet some of our longest lasting friends. They help us grow as an individual and help us through our toughest times that we will encounter as we grow up.
As we grow up we have so much to look forward to. When we’re young we have so many great ‘firsts’ to look forward to. From our first day in school to our first car to our first job, all the way to our first pay check, all of these create unforgettable memories that we’ll look back to later on.
A great thing about being young is that we are allowed to try out new things and experience new adventures and try out new paths in life. When we’re young, we are fortunate to have the ability to try out new things to see where it will lead us and where it could possibly take us in the future. It’s an exhilarating and enlivening couple of years and it’s when we get to know more about our strengths and weaknesses.
Being young, you get to spend so much more time with your parents. This may not seem like such a benefit to you at the time, but after you don’t get to

It is only natural to dismiss the idea of our own personal flaws, for who with a healthy sense of self wanders in thoughts of their own insufficiency? The idea of hypocrisy is one that strikes a sensitive nerve to most, and being labeled a hypocrite is something we all strive to avoid. Philip Meyer takes this emotion to the extreme by examining a study done by a social psychologist, Stanley Milgram, involving the effects of discipline. In the essay, "If Hitler Asked You to Electrocute a Stranger, Would You? Probably", Meyer takes a look at Milgram's study that mimics the execution of the Jews (among others) during World War II by placing a series of subjects under similar conditions of stress, authority, and obedience. The main theme of this experiment is giving subjects the impression that they are shocking an individual for incorrectly answering a list of questions, but perhaps more interesting is the results that occur from both ends of the research. Meyer's skill in this essay is using both the logical appeal of facts and statistics as well as the pathetic appeal to emotion to get inside the reader's mind in order to inform and dissuade us about our own unscrupulous actions.…

There is something about youth that has always encapsulated those grown out of it. The human race puts it on a pedestal after it has been spent, and it becomes a last wish, something to laugh about in past tense. They will laugh and say how teenagers often feel as though they are invincible, that we are wild and insane because we think we cannot be harmed. But it is so much more than just a feeling. In the seconds between laughs and the embers of a glittering bonfire and the bite of a bone-chilling wind, we are invincible. We still may bleed, but it will be golden. We still may break, but it will feel as if we have been born anew. We still may feel the pain of our lives crushing into us, but it will seem like it is ecstasy rushing against us.…
