Why Did Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor

“A date which will live in infamy”(Franklin Roosevelt) crossed many people's minds on December 7, 1941. This day had gave the final push to the United States entering World War 2. On December 8th, Congress had approved Roosevelt's declaration of war. American’s did not know at that moment they would be entering a six year war with the Japanese and their allies Germany and Italy. This war had ended with the axis surrendering on May 8th 1945. The Manhattan Project, because of the attack, and the Casablanca Conference are very important on what and why this tragic event happened.
The Manhattan Project “started during the fall of 1939, when President F. D. Roosevelt was made aware of the possibility that German scientists were racing to build an atomic bomb and was warned that Hitler would be more than willing to resort to such a weapon”(Manhattan Project Researchers). In 1942, Roosevelt approved of the military making an atomic bomb. The project mainly took place in Tennessee, New Mexico, and Washington.
