While in the North, the whole situation was different. The north wanted the freeing of slaves because many of them participated in the Continental Army. The South, however, they saw slavery was fully important to the economy and they did not want to spare the free labor as the north was. Socially, the North of America had made more progress than the South. The North experienced de facto segregation, which meant that blacks were discriminated against but not segregated by law. This meant that socially black people were more accepted than they were in the south. In the North the black population was mostly concentrated in ghetto areas where homes and schools for blacks were inferior. This meant that black people were not living around white people and that their homes were of a lower standard than the homes of white people.…

But, the views of both the north and the south were drastically different. It was a new life for former slave owners as now they have lost lots of their property. Also, it was a whole new experience for former slaves who now were free for the first time ever. Many former slaves had no idea what to do now because they were used to the forced labor they had to do every day. The racism in the south still lived so it was not easy for the former slaves to find new jobs. Some of the new free slaves migrated up north to find better opportunities to support themselves. Theothers still had to face hardships they faced while being property. The new practice the former slave owners used was called peonage. The major difference between north and south was on the ideal of slavery (free labor vs. slave labor). Most slaves on the south worked for land-cultivating cotton; tobacco, sugar, and rice because southern economy mainly depended on agriculture. Most slaves lived on large farms or small plantations and their behaviors and movements were restricted. Slaveholders also tried to keep slaves from learning to read and write. Slaveholders kept them divided so that it’s less likely for them to organize against their masters.…

If the South seceded, the North and South would both be benefited. The North would have changed into a country with social and economic policies similar the ones in Canada or European countries. The South would have half an economy based on slave labor or an economy based on free labor. If Lincoln had let the 11 Southern states away, Southern blacks eventually would have won their freedom. They may have had to switch arms, but only a few could argue.…

The South also known as Slave States, was a slave-based community that shadowed a class-based system. This system involved aristocracy, middle class and then slavery. Many in the South depended on slaves and were adapted to this way of life, making change difficult. Agricultural estate owners had slaves working for them, while those who could not afford to own slaves of their own would work on their own farm. The North, also known as Free States, had more immigrants settling in its areas, economy was on such an up rise that labors were need, but not the labor of slaves. Therefore it had a more industrialized society, most people worked in factories, not follow a class system. A great deal of Northerners opposed the institute of slavery in the South, as the Confederate States were the only region in the world that still legalized the ownership of…
