It is said that the First World War was started by the action of Gavrilo Princip. On June 28, 1914, this daring young man murdered the prince of the Austria-Hungary Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. It happened in Sarajevo, Bosnia. A group of disaffected Serbian Nationalists , known as the Black Hand organization saw the Archduke’s visit as the perfect opportunity to strike a political blow against what they saw as their oppressors. This murder aggravated many people causing other people to make risky decisions that would lead to World War I. The war started not even a month after the assassination.

Later they would discover how difficult it was to be a soldier with all of the suffering it included. After Germany tried, and failed in Ludendorff’s Offensive in 1918 to break the Andlo-French entente armies, the American army that were approaching, were starting to have a great effect on the war. Germany was dying economically, that led to poor weapons and equipment for the army, and the beginning of starvation for the German population . Germany surrendered on November 11, 1918.
