To begin with, the school days are often very stressful for students for many reasons. Students feel as though schools try to contain them, resulting in them feeling as if they are not granted freedom to be themselves. They claim that because the general work day is seven to eight hours, the school days should be as well. These ideas are mistaken, however, because students should not be expected to perform the same amount at school as adults do at work. As reported by the article Reasons Why the School Day Should Be Shorter, “Some educational settings allow students to be active during the day, and this helps, but students still shouldn't be expected to put in an eight-hour work day.” Under these circumstances, students should start out in school, then slowly work their way up to a steady job as they get older.
All in all, school days should not be longer due to the amount of stress that students are given, restriction of extracurricular activities, and the extra cost presented to taxpayers and parents. In order to prevent the longer school days, petitions should be passed around, to show how many students
