First reason is they need to experience loss and learn from the many lessons that come with it, along with the value of hard work to achieve success. According to Lisa Hefferman states "As parents we would like to assume that when families and kids sign up a team they honor that commitment and show up. We hope that we are teaching our youngest kids to love athletic endeavors or any sorts, as we know this benefits mind and body"(In defense of participation trophies: why they really do teach right values?1210L). With that being said, kids need to experience the loss and learn from the many lessons that come with it, that we can learn something from everything that we do in life. Second reason is trophy can only give to someone who really deserves it. For example, a kid can go to practice every day and have a terrible attitude and not improve or work hard at the sport and still receive a trophy at the end of the season. That's not fair for people who tried, the winners can see that the trophy isn’t that valuable. Third reason is if everyone receives a trophy, kids will lack of motivation. Kenneth Barish,
