Teens who Murder, and How they should be Sentenced

Teens who commit murder should be charged as an adult because of their horrific actions. I’ve done some research and found some info about teens that murder, and what the normal charge is for them. But some cases are very horrific, and very unbelievable that people could commit such crazy crimes. From murdering a classmate to shooting a mother and her infant child at point blank range, as well as the psychological aspect of why people murder, let alone why teens murder. Reported online on SkyNewsHD.com the story reads; 16 year old described as a star pupil with “a bright future” killed due to gang violence. 19 year old Amiur Nazir Khan was charged with suspicion of murder due to insufficient evidence and witnesses. Every year 10,000 Teens are killed due to gang violence. Many Teens see themselves compelled to be involved in these types of activities due to family or friends being involved as well.

This one is another example. Seen online at MJDonline.com, 3 Teens were accused of beating a 36 year old male, leaving him in the middle of the street to be struck by an oncoming vehicle. Evidence found points that the 3 Teens were part of a street gang. All 3 Teens were charged but released on bail. This story was quite interesting but in the police report it says that this crime was committed in the day time. How could you not see a motionless body in the middle of the road? Police believe that there was a 4th person involved driving a getaway vehicle. But as well as the others the evidence or witnesses were

Studies show that parents are six times more likely to kill their children than children are to kill their parents. But these facts are changing. The number of adolescents in jail has doubled over the past ten years and 115,000 of these arrests were for violent crimes. Michael D. Kelleher, author of When Good Kids Kill, has looked into cases of teenage violence and why they happen. What happens when a good kid decides to murder? What causes the radical and almost instantaneous change in their behavior? And most importantly, what can we do as a society to change it?…

Typically, juveniles who display a propensity for committing crime will continue to do so, even as they get older. Their crimes may even become more serious in nature. Therefore, teens that commit heinous crimes should be punished for their obnoxious behavior. In “Juvenile Doesn’t Deserve Life Sentences” by Gail Garinger, he states that “a juvenile doesn’t deserve life in prison because most teens haven’t reached their full maturity”.…

A teenager should not be tried on the same level as an adult, if they can not do things an adult does. Juveniles are too young and know little about the world; therefore, they should not receive the harsh punishment that adults are being given. Since we are the parents of our kids “It’s why they can’t smoke, or drink, or go to R movies without our OK” (Lundstrom). Adults are lot older, intelligent, mature than teens; therefore, they should not be tried on the same level as adults. Although minors have some knowledge their brains are not matured like adults to make right and wrong decisions. It goes far as beyond to saying teens will not know what they did wrong until they are told. In the article “Juveniles Don’t Deserve Life Sentences” Gail Garinger states, “Brain imaging studies reveal that the regions of the adolescent brain responsible for controlling thoughts, actions and emotions are not fully developed. They cannot be held to the same standards when they commit terrible crimes.” This shows that teenagers are not capable of making decisions and they can not control what they do, even if it is wrong they will not know. Teens should not be charged as adults for the crimes they…

At the ages of one to fifteen the murder would have to be a very clear intention of murder to try the child as an adult. No one person's crime is the same as another, therefore no one should be tried the same. Minors, depending on their situation could be tried as adults. Children going through adolescence have emotional instability, me being a child going through this phase represent an example. The way I might react to something is going to different than the way someone else would, this is because no two people are alike.…

Edgar Allen Poe has a better way of describing his emotions on to paper, his tone is dark and depressing yet gives into a little anger here and there. Charles Dickens has also dark and emotional stories growing up poor he must have a few little glimpses of pain but he became wealthy in time. Poe was born wealthy and became poor as he grew older, and if that was not enough sadness, every loved one he had died most of tuberculosis so he drank and wrote stories to cope with the pain of being alone and loveless.…

People still debate whether juveniles should be tried as adults. There are many juveniles creating adult crimes and getting away with little sentences and use excuses like being too "young" or inherited genes. Some juveniles really mean to kill or hurt someone and that is not acceptable for that person to get a little sentence. In the article "On Punishment and Teen Killers" by Jennifer Jenkins, it talks about how juveniles deserve to be tried as adults for committing commensurate crimes which is a good decision.…

In the United States, anyone who is charged for committing a crime before the day of their 18th birthday is considered a juvenile and depending on the severity of the case shall be tried as a juvenile. There are some cases; however, where the juvenile justice system should be harder on the juvenile, but in most cases they should not go to an adult prison. There are most certainly some cases in which the juvenile should face the adult justice system, but for petty instances, a juvenile court will suffice. I find it hard to agree that a juvenile convicted for crimes dealing with drugs, alcohol, traffic violations, etc. should be tried in an adult court to receive punishment; however, I do believe that someone who commits rape, murder, kidnapping, or any other major crimes of the sort should be taken to an adult court. “Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time,” is a quote I remember hearing as I was growing up, but I was not taught that it applied to small or minor crimes, but often serious ones involving the harming of another individual. Placing juveniles in adult prisons can cause them to be put in danger, when in reality many of them can be “fixed”…

Should juveniles who commit adult offence like murder, rape and armed robbery etc. be charged or dealt with as an adult? The primary difference in dealing with a juvenile meaning a person that is 18 years or younger the goal is not to punish the juvenile, but rather rehabilitate, is that fair? Or is society as a whole are guilty and to blame for forsaking the future generation? The juvenile offences are skyrocketing at an alarming rate that it is hard to view the graphic and horrific crimes of the juvenile as being anything but civil or delinquent, especially when the juvenile is committing bloody murder.…

Juveniles who commit first or second degree murder should not receive a mandatory sentence of life without parole. The majority of supreme court justices believes that it should not be mandatory to sentence juveniles to life without parole because violates the eighth amendment. The Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution states that excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. What's the point of the United States Constitution if its not being used in the supreme court system. Teens should not be charged with a life sentence because teens do not have the same rights as an adult and a teenager's brain is not fully developed until age twenty-nine, additional research has found that adult and teen brains work differently.…
