Abandoning pets is the most popular type of animal abuse. According to the Statistics Brain Research Institute, the most popular type of animal abuse is neglecting/ abandoning their pets at 32%, only next to hoarding (when too many animals are kept in unfit or unsanitary conditions to live), at only 13%. Also, the ASPCA researched that 2.7 million pets go abandoned or are killed each year.
When animals go abandoned, they get desperate and do whatever they can to do to survive. So when that 32% gets neglected, it could cause mayhem amongst dogs or cat and could end up fighting each other. One reason why it may hurt children and humans is because they might attack the person when they try to approach the animal. A study conducted by the University of Texas Southwest Medical School, says that there were approximately 74 fatal dog bites from 1966-1980. They also reported that 23 of the fatalities were young infants 1 year or younger. When a dog bites ,and is homeless, it may have a disease that will harm them and could lead to infection or even death. Although it may be young infants who get attacked by the rabid dogs, it still isn’t worth the risk of having a young child die from someone who didn’t want to have their pet
