Why Does Lily Hate Chemistry
Lily hates chemistry, in fact, it is her least favorite class. Not only does Lily hate chemistry but she has a pretty interesting family. She has three other siblings, two of which are her younger brothers. Money is sometimes tight because her mom makes jewelry (which isn't exactly steady), and her dad makes furniture (which also isn't always steady). Lily's best friend, Isabel, has been trying to get her to talk to her crush Lucas, but last time she did that she froze. Not only was she embarrassed about that but a few years back Cade Jennings gave her the name Magnet because during P.E. everyone would throw the ball at her. Years later Cade and Lily still can't get along. One day in chemistry Lily wrote a lyric to one of her favorite songs on the desk, when she came back the next day someone wrote back. …show more content…
Soon Lily began to look forward to Chemistry so she could read what her "pen pan" was going to say. One day, when Lily had to go do a task in the chemistry room for a teacher she saw exactly who was writing her the letters, Cade Jennings. How could it be Cade? Lily hated Cade! Lily tried to stop writing but she couldn't do it so she continued to write, hoping Cade wouldn't find out it was her who was writing him back. Thanksgiving rolls around and Cade gets invited to her family Thanksgiving because he is her little brother's soccer coach. The two call it a truce and end up getting along pretty well, until her parents almost spoil that she is the one writing the letters by doing a family tradition. Cade leaves and Lily feels horrible. Lily soon starts to have feelings for Cade and Isabel tries to talk her into telling him it is her. After a tough day for Lily, Cade needs a ride home so he asks her to give him a ride, but first they have to go somewhere. They sneak to a country club that Cade's stepdad belongs to but they end up getting

Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. And she throws them all away. One of Lily's biggest issues is pride, which we can blame for these failed marriage opportunities. She's too proud to talk to Rosedale, to let Bertha think that Selden came to Bellomont to visit her, to explain her side of the story regarding the Monte Carlo affair, or to marry a man like Selden who isn't dripping hundred dollar bills out of his pores. She can't even allow herself to be true friends with a caring woman like Gerty because she's too "dingy." Time and time again, Lily recoils from any sign of poverty (or anything that isn't elaborate or doesn't represent extreme wealth) as though it were physically contaminating.…

Everyday, after school, Greg always sits on the couch, and watches television. His mom comes in everyday, just to see if he has called Rachel yet. However, Greg keeps on procrastinating. Thus, Greg finally decides to call Rachel although he really does not want to. A week passes by, his mom checks on Greg and asks if he called Rachel yet. This time, Greg tells her that Rachel ‘‘won’t even let [him] say anything. She just hangs up!’’ (Andrews 54). Consequently, Greg is discouraged and gives up, therefore, he does not succeed since the first step on getting closer to Rachel is to call her and set up a date so they can hangout together.
