The Website collegeresults.org reports that only 23.6 percent of Old Dominion University students graduate with in four years. This shocking fact reveals that their students are failing many of their classes. My goal is to transfer to ODU and successfully earn a bachelor’s degree in education. There are many benefits that come with a college education but, I will also face my challenges while pursuing my degree. Therefore, I must utilize the expert advice that is available to me and develop strategies to ensure my success.
According to Robert S. Feldman’s article, "Why Go to College," in my ENF textbook, students have many reasons for attending college (27). The most important reason for me is to make my family proud and to be the first son to graduate a college. A college degree will help me earn a better living and provide financial security for myself. However, I will also receive many more benefits. He advises students to be patient and learn the fundamentals of education. The second expert that I learned is Dr. Yvonne Thornton, author the book The Ditchdigger's Daughters, who explains her father's rabbit theory, which helped his daughters to be successful in school. The rabbit theory involves finding a classmate who is doing better and copying their study habits.
