In my studies I have aspired and gained a strong foundational discipline to prepare me to be successful for the STEM program. A career and a graduate study program in STEM is right for me because of my determination and desire to master the field of STEM. The support and assistance that the program offers would be easy to access throughout my stay at UMBC and will serve as a source to aid in my success. The career exploration and personal advising will serve to keep me focused in achieving my goals of pursuing a career in forensic science. Most importantly, I would use the skills and knowledge I attain through this program to give back to the community and empower other young people to pursue a career in STEM. The accountability-focused advising would allow me to have a deeper student-advisor connection, while being able to demonstrate discipline and dedication to the university and the BUILD Training Program. It would benefit and enhance my personal growth and productivity because of the greater responsibilities and requirements of the program. No matter where you go in this world, you are likely encounter people that are different from you in many aspects. In the STEM field, this is extremely evident. The importance of STEM education is more dominant in foreign countries than in America today. Understanding and respecting diversity is key to being able to work with people of different nationalities, ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds. From a scientific perspective, the way people are biologically made is a part of diversity. Some diseases and traits are more prominent in people based on their biological makeup and environment, such as sickle cell anemia, which is more prevalent among people with darker skin. For engineering and technology, the infrastructure and technological advances vary from country to country. Since everyone has different experiences based on the factors I previously stated, they can bring different points of views, beliefs, and ideas to the table when working together. Each advancement that is created requires scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians to conquer it.
