The leadership position I have been involved with the longest is high school cheerleading. By simply being a part of the squad, I have a platform to encourage others and support my school. We, as a squad, have the ability to set the tone for the rest of the student body before a game and to make others feel great when they accomplish something. I was elected the captain of the Junior Varsity team my sophomore year and am currently the captain of the Varsity team. The role of captain is important to me because I have learned how to interact with others efficiently, organize and communicate important information to a large group, and voice the opinions of the entire squad to our coach. At my school, each grade’s Class Council is responsible for raising funds for their senior prom and creating service projects. During my sophomore year I was elected Vice President and I was elected President at the beginning of my junior year. As Vice President I organized a holiday card drive for deployed soldiers and a Valentine card drive for elderly living in assisted-living facilities. Last year, as President, I collaborated with the rest of the group to design and sell a class shirt to fund-raise. Now that I am a senior, the organization has been condensed to six students who are elected by the entire class. Luckily I was one of the students chosen. I value this leadership position so much because my peers have trusted me to make decisions on their behalf. It is an honor to be able to represent them and contribute to the "behind the scenes" work which goes behind a variety of events during the year, such as prom, senior picnic, and graduation
