Odyssey Of The Mind Program Analysis
For as long as I can remember, I have had a natural inclination to lead. Throughout middle school, high school, and even college, I was always the first pick to lead whenever a group was involved. I enjoy doing group work and getting other people's input on projects, so my enthusiasm and drive toward accomplishment makes me a natural choice for the group lead. I do well at keeping people on task, assisting them when required, and making certain that we complete all necessary objectives. Specifically, I have shown a great deal of leadership during my time in the Odyssey of the Mind program. I have participated in the program for seven years, during which I have participated as a volunteer judge for two years, was a captain of a team of six for four years, and was elected President of my high school's division twice. As President of the program I planned events, supervised my own team in addition to several others, and served to resolve any and all conflicts that may arise in regards to the program. In this way, I was chiefly responsible for problem solving and aiding people toward being able to …show more content…
In this leadership role, I am responsible for the running of our meetings and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Every week I contact the members, remind them of their responsibilities, and help to make sure that people come to the meetings completely prepared. I enjoy taking part in the program because it allows me to interact with the community and aid people to better their public speaking ability while also teaching me how to better conduct myself and make the meetings more effective. Beyond this, it is also largely my job to make sure the meetings are fun and maintaining the interest of the members. As President, I feel I have greatly contributed to the clubs functionality and

Under the presidency of S.A.D.D (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in my high school, I've conducted and lead many projects to help many organizations and even planned and coordinated many community service projects. But, out of the many project that the club and I have planned and created, I would have to state that I've projected my leadership role the most while our club and I went to Feeding South Florida for a field trip that I've planned. The reason why I state this is because, Feeding South Florida was a common place that many people knew, especially our members, and so before we got to the warehouse, I've explained the purpose Feeding South Florida stands for and the job that we would have to do there. When we got to the warehouse and began working, I would help the members and other volunteers carry boxes that were a bit heavy for them to carry and to help them understand how to sort the items that were donated to the warehouse into categorized boxes that they had provided to us. The purpose on why I led this project is because of the purpose behind Feeding South Florida, which is to collect, pack and send foods to the many shelters and food kitchens that they have provided in South Florida and working on this project created a positive effect on my life. The reason why I state this is because, while volunteering, it made me feel as if I was privileged.…

Leadership is a lifestyle, not a role one adopts. Leadership requires strength and power, but also the ability to empathize and recognize others' needs. As a high school student, I have had many opportunities to be a leader, whether it be through clubs, group projects, or extracurricular activities. During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. I…

I am passionate about being a leader because I see leadership as the product of responsibility and experience. As a former student leader at high school, I believe the meaning of campus leadership is to provide high quality services for the students and the parents. Also, leaders need to exchange ideas from each other, so they can make the community a better place for students to live and study. I am always seeking for opportunities to help people and enrich my experience, and I believe I will make great contributions as a leader on MICA campus.…

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

I have always been the person who would step up to lead in group projects, difficult situations, and doing good for common causes. Yet, I know how to step down and let other people lead that might be better for the position. When accomplishing things, I like to go above the expectations, as I have by only turning in my best work, putting others above myself when appropriate, and advocating to make a good impression. I also have positive and negative group experiences that have helped me learned about how to work in a group well.…

I have taken a lot of leadership roles such as helping out at summer camps, in my 4-H club, in NJHS, and in karate. This quality carries over into my school life. Often, I become the leader in group projects, specifically in World Studies. In sixth grade, the Humanities Program did a Greek City State Olympics, and my group represented Rhodes. For this project, we had to design an event as well as create prizes for the winners. I took leadership for the prizes, creating wreaths. Similarly, in seventh grade, we did plays based on African folktales. My group of four was given the folktale “The Foolishness of the Ostrich.” When no one else was willing to play the ostrich, I took leadership and played the…

Being on student council has taught me how to be an effective leader. Student council is the under belly of work, the leadership skills that cannot be taught, but must be learned through experience. Being Vice President of student council has taught me many things and transformed me into a stronger leader. The best thing it has taught me is how to be ambitious in what I believe in. It has taught me to take action on whatever I set my mind to. The leadership skills that I acquired while running meetings have been very beneficial. It has taught me organizational skills when planning events, and also social skills when speaking with staff and peers. I have learned how to work with a budget. I have learned publicity skills when making posters and banners to encourage the student body to come to events. I have learned how to make the hardest or simplest decisions that will be the most beneficial for everyone. It has taught me how to put others first, and how to represent myself in a respectful manner to others. In my opinion, these are the qualities a leader should have. The goal of student council is to express themselves in the group so as to be effective. A leader cannot achieve alone. As part of a group, we open our ears and envision possibilities to improve Buffalo Grove High School. In order for any group to succeed and attain their goals, it needs cooperation and teamwork. I’ve learned that teamwork is probably the most effective element in achieving a team’s goal. During Student Council meetings, if ideas are circulating within the group, it will be easier to improve and come up with an even better one. I believe that by serving my student body on student council I have gained many of the important qualities that it takes to be a leader. My definition of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and lead by example. Next year, I intend on running for student council President. I am going to work diligently…

As president of the student council I have the responsibility of setting a good example for the students in my school. The counselor, believing I was capable of organizing and overseeing almost any event, put me in charge of the annual Miss Woodland pageant. I made entry forms, recruited participants and workers, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The leadership in me came out when recruiting the participants. Many people I talked to had never done anything remotely similar to a pageant. I listened to their questions and explained how things worked in pageants.…

Being part of the said organization, it was an absolute opportunity for me. Students do look for someone to whom they could relate and could count on in terms of their ideas, problems and academic needs inside school premises. So, it became my responsibility to know and identify every edge of the problem to be solved as a student leader. Yes, it wasn’t that easy for I am a student as well and I have to attend classes like an ordinary one to meet all the needed requirements to pass. But carrying a title of “president” in the world of politics isn’t a joke. You have to be vigilant in all your actions and words because one mistake could destroy one’s trust and hope. When you are a president of a prestige organization where big expectations awaits, you should know how to balance and perfect every aspect of yourself, the way you dress up properly, the way you speak in the public, and the hardest one, is to maintain an excellent standing in terms of academics. That has been a tough time for me, despite of the burning passion inside me; after all I’m just human and not some kind of “Einstein”. I wanted to attend my everyday classes but the responsibility that was tied to me won’t let me. I should give priority to becoming a good leader and putting my fellow student’s welfare first than myself. And in my case, I wasn’t a very intelligent individual who could not attend classes and would still perfect an exam. I also have that kind of flaws. There are problems that I encounter during my term but I can say that all of it was worth facing…
