Do You Want to Be an Anesthesiologist If you’ve ever wanted to be an anesthesiologist look no further, this will show you the what, how, where, and why of being an anesthesiologist. Overall, an anesthesiologist is a doctor who cares for a patient during a surgical or medical procedure by administering anesthesia and monitoring the patient for response to ensure comfort and pain.
An anesthesiologist goes to the patient before the operation to evaluate the patient's medical condition and their history. The anesthesiologist also explains the process so the patient knows what to expect. All patients should talk with their physician anesthesiologist and surgeon before surgery, ask questions about their procedure and anesthesia care, and share information about their health history that will allow the team to provide the safest care possible. Anesthesiologist assistants, also known as anesthetists, help develop and implement anesthesia care plans. Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, they record patient histories, perform physical examinations, establish patient monitoring devices and administer anesthetics. They are also responsible for the continuity of care for patients after an operation to make sure they recover from anesthesia. Anesthesiologist assistants usually work in hospitals and medical centers. They are a part of the anesthesia team that includes anesthesiologists and nurses, working in operating rooms, extreme care places, pain clinics and other settings as necessary. Anesthesiologist assistants have a typical work week with optional evenings, weekends and on-call hours. Before you begin researching possible careers, it is important to try to determine what type of lifestyle you want. Think about your passions and values. If you are passionate about travel or about snow skiing, you will need a career that allows you to have enough money and flexibility to do these things. If you value family, you will want a career that allows you to be home on holidays. If your personality type favors being in charge, then you will not want to be in a career where you don’t get to make any decisions. So, reflect on the things we have done so far on mentor days,passions, values, and personality. This knowledge in considering what type of future lifestyle would fit you the best.
