Why I Want To Be Strong Like Popeye, Eat The Spinach
The central message of this advertisement is if you want to be strong like Popeye, eat their spinach. I can recall waking up Saturday morning watching the cartoon Popeye as a child. Popeye was always trying to impress Olive Oil. Popeye wasn’t the only one with eyes for Olive Oil, his nemesis, Pluto also had a very hostile interest towards Olive Oil as well. The cartoon would start out with Popeye planning something nice for Olive Oil, the day would be going perfectly. Pluto would notice Olive Oil and take her from Popeye, but not before beating him up and leaving him disheveled and succumbed to his wounds. When it seems that all hope is lost in some way or another Popeye would grab a can of spinach, pop it open and consume the entire contents. The spinach would invigorate Popeye with the strength of 12 men, a steam engine, or some other analogy of extreme strength. Popeye would then proceed to pummel Pluto in the worst way imaginable, throwing him around like a rag doll. …show more content…
This would be why, I assume, that the advertisers were tasked with selling this product and trying to make it appealing to the public so they used the image of Popeye. I feel like no effort was put in the advertisement because Popeyes fame did all the work for them. The only thing they did was put a picture of the product in the background, which is the spinach. The spinach appears to be leafy and green and very healthy. To grab your attention "Popeye" is the only word in bright colors, red with yellow outlines around it and below it is the word "spinach" in a small bold print. Then finally there is a figure of Popeye with his arms crossed, showing off his renowned oversized forearms. The way the advertisement is written at first glance it may seem like the can says "Popeyes Spinach". In actuality, it says "The Allens Popeye brand

To me this commercial is very successful in persuading its audience to vote for him as a nominee for Alabama’s agriculture commission, because he’s been a farmer, a business man, and a marine during the Vietnam War. Secondly, he is responsible and accountable for the state’s wealth, which is five billion dollars, and furthermore, if the citizens of Alabama don’t vote for him, they may be at risk for losing their farms.…

The main audience for this advertisement is for people who are hungry looking for food. Or simply just people that like to eat chicken. As people drive by the advertisement they may want to stop at a Chik-fil-A to get some food, since they can see that they serve chicken. Americans who dislike beef are also an audience for this advertisement. By looking at the advertisement people can automatically know that beef is not sold at the restaurant which would make them want to go get food there.…

Yogurt is a good food to explain to women how their figure would look if they were to eat healthy foods like yogurt. As shown in the ad, they are advertising a Diet Nestle Yogurt. This ad shows that the woman, on the ad, can be a white woman’s idol. Women may want to get into a dress, like the one the woman is showing off, or even show off their bellies again because before they could not. Women want to look like these people because they are pretty, and skinny. As said before, based on what Bordo explains, the girl has a good attitude toward the food which gains people’s attention toward the specific yogurt. This can result in women beginning a diet or going out and starting something different, such as working out. Bordo also says, “You never see ads about not focusing on our size or shape because of your natural beauty. But you see more is the ideal image of beauty and slenderness (page 139).” This is an example of one of those ads that get people’s attention to start something new. Plato makes a good point about how woman stay in their shackles just to be skinny and be what society wants them to look like. When one leaves the shackles he or she goes out, like a person is giving them self up to the world and showing the world who they really are. Being skinny and slender is what many women want to look like. Some women start to think that they want to have an ideal weight or become slim which will result in others noticing that they can be a accepted as a part of…
