Why I Want To Be The First Generation To Attend College
Essay Topic A By being the first generation to attend college, I broke the educational barrier that bounded my family within its domains. Both of my parents are from Mexico, coming from non-educated, hardworking families. My father along with my mother, came to the United States with nothing but the clothes on their backs, a dream in their sights and the will and determination to help them reach their goals. If I have learned anything from my parents, it is that hard work and the right mentality can go a long way. I want to show my parents that their sacrifices that they have made for my brothers, sister and I will not be in vain, because I will show them that we have the ability to achieve great things in life. Being the first to attend college is something I hold dear, but I feel that graduating from a well-known university with a bachelors in engineering, is my goal and my responsibility. I aspire to be a role model for my two younger brothers and sister. I …show more content…
I have enjoyed the classes that offered more of a challenge than others, classes like University Physics, all three calculus classes, chemistry and any other class that has made me think more critically about issues, or problems of the past and of the present day. I have also enjoyed working in teams on projects that these classes provided for us. Working in teams to complete projects or to just study was a delightful experience, because I got to work with smart intellectuals who, each with different ways of thinking, solving problems and had different amplitudes of knowledge and skill. Indulging in tackling a challenge with team work is one of the reasons I decided to set foot in the world of engineering. Engineering captivates me, the idea of materializing tangible results from knowledge and a person’s vision, is insanely remarkable. So one of my goals is to become an engineer and to create something new, which would benefit society while being environmentally

Knowing that getting a good education for their kids was their first goal encouraged me to work hard in school. Every minute I have spent at Science Park High I have appreciated because I know it is an enormous privilege to get such an excellent education from many insightful teachers. This will also apply to college. Although my siblings all went to high school, they did not go to college and I saw it break each one of their hearts. This will inevitably push me to reach for nothing but greatness in college, to give it me 100 percent and nothing less no matter how hard it…

Doing some research, I learned about the science club in my middle school. During the science club, we did many experience relating to physics and chemistry. Every time we did an experience, I would try to apply it to an airplane. For example, after forming a group of four, we were given the task to design a go cart in auto-cad and then build it in reality. After completing the first challenge we must race it against other groups on race day. During race day, we were expected to calculate speed, drag and friction, and a few years later I did the same with a plane in my first aerospace class. Another example came in high school, when I was in my 3rd year in the robotic club and the adviser gave us a challenge. The challenge was to create a wheelchair pitching machine for a friend of his that happen to be a paralyzed baseball coach. The challenge was tough because it was the first of its kind; however, we learned about compressors, circuits, programming and how to work as a team. As a result, during my sophomore year of college, I took Physics 196 and a programming class. Luckily for me both of those classes were not a challenge because I had learned majority of the content in robotic…

It’s easy to make a goal rather than to achieve it. However, with determination one can succeed in accomplishing it. I have accomplished one of many goals in my list and that's to attend college. In my family not a lot attended college or even finished high school, so accomplishing this goal is a big subject of matter to my family.Getting this far is even a big accomplishment in my eye’s, especially when you break free from an assembly line of generations that never had attended college. The feeling is still overwhelming, mainly because I’m the first of many generations in my family to accomplish something big like…

Both of my parents went to college and both of them also went on to get a post-graduate degree. To them a college education is a necessity to be successful in life. Neither one of them expects me to get into or go to Harvard or Yale, but they do expect me to go to a respectable college. Some teenagers often do not go to college because they must get a job to support their family. Thankfully my parents have always said that I do not need to get a job until after college. The academic and financial support my parents have provided me has cause me not to think of college as a unattainable dream, but almost as another step in my educational , similar to high school or middle school. My parent’s knowledge of the college and the admission process has taught what I need to do in order to put myself in a position to get into a respectful college. The advice and knowledge from my parents has taught me not to just worry about my grades because colleges do not like book worms. Colleges like kids who show they can manage many activities while still maintain a solid 4+ GPA. This attitude has been a positive for me because now I am in many extra-curricular activities including playing Varsity lacrosse, being on the Academic Bowl team, and playing two instruments. Without my parents I could most definitely see myself being a book worm, but thanks to them shaping the attitude that colleges look at more than just grades I have become more outgoing. My parents influence on my view n attitude of college has most definitely been a positive one, and thanks to them, so far, I have been very…

Going to college means more to me than being able to say I have made it to a successful start. One of my lifelong ambitions is to be able to give back to the less fortunate. Through a community service event I've realized some things should not be taken for granted, especially when there are poverty-stricken families that have to worry about a simple meal for their children at night. Thus, I will not let the false perception of society about my race determine legacy, the amount of degrees I earn or limit my…

My urge to a higher education will lead the way to a successful career and possibly a beautiful home in a good community. I will also be able to set a good example for my little sister and my nephews and nieces. Having them realize that although our family has struggle for many years due to these intuitions that oppress us there’s always a way around it. I feel privilege in a sense because the struggles that my older family members went through were lived experiences that made me stronger and strive for a better outcome. The endless nights that my parents worked to provide me with food and shelter has kept me alive long enough to change history. I have also come to realize that these forms of Institutional Racism exist on many levels. The fact that we were redlined and segregated from good neighborhoods with lack of proper resources leads my brothers to dropping out of school. Forcing them to work at fast food places living check by check causing stress upon which lead them to gangs. Which eventually had them in jail facing time due to these forms of…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…
