There has been many moments where I feel as if I go to school, I will not succeed. But I know that deep down if I continue with school, I will be more than motivated to continue.
Having three older sisters, I can get a lot of advice on college and school. Will two of them making the decision to drop out. Going to college has always been a goal to myself. Personally, it means more than expecting to get a good job with a high earning potential. It means the opportunity to develop myself as a person and become a valued member of society. It means, that as the oldest brother and first generation in my family with the possibility to attend college, setting an example for my younger siblings about how to shape your own path and break that mindset of “do what you have to do” and replacing it with one which says, “do something that makes you happy.”…

Growing up in a financially disadvantaged family, it became obvious to me at an early age that I needed to go to college if I did not want my children to endure the struggles I did during my childhood. By the time I had reached the 3rd grade I had convinced myself that I would go to college, work for a degree, and die trying if I failed. This may seem extreme, however this mindset has gotten me through several struggles and misfortunes life has thrown my direction.…

Having grown up in a single parent home with two sisters who did not complete high school, made the pressure for me to succeed unimaginable. The constant reminder of achieving greatness has stuck with me since I was eight years old. Throughout middle school I was top of my class, in high school I graduated cum laude with a 4.4 GPA and currently in my 1st year of college I am top of my intermediate/college algebra class, I scored the highest grade out of all 5 of my psychology teachers classes, and I have an A in my Philosophy class. My educational goals consist of gaining knowledge throughout my entire life, achieving higher than my goals, being as involved as I can possibly be with my college/ community, and continuing to prosper. Many years ago, India’s pharmaceutical industry was suffering from number of international trade limits due to their violation of intellectual property rights. The Indian companies used to copy patents of drugs made by Western countries and Japan with no responsibility to property rights. This would discourage international investors from investing into India’s drug industry. India was only good for making generic brand drugs because the patents for those drugs were already expired. However, the situation has changed dramatically in recent years due to the rising demand for international trade. Especially, with the induction of India into WTO in 2005, there came the appreciation and protection for property rights. India stopped making those counterfeit drugs. The fact that India is a member of WTO has eased the path for foreign investors to start investing into India’s many industries including drug industry. Due to flow of investments and Western cooperation, India’s pharmaceutical industry has seen unprecedented growth since 2005. According to the case, by 2011, the industry reached $11.5 billion.…

Both of my parents went to college and both of them also went on to get a post-graduate degree. To them a college education is a necessity to be successful in life. Neither one of them expects me to get into or go to Harvard or Yale, but they do expect me to go to a respectable college. Some teenagers often do not go to college because they must get a job to support their family. Thankfully my parents have always said that I do not need to get a job until after college. The academic and financial support my parents have provided me has cause me not to think of college as a unattainable dream, but almost as another step in my educational , similar to high school or middle school. My parent’s knowledge of the college and the admission process has taught what I need to do in order to put myself in a position to get into a respectful college. The advice and knowledge from my parents has taught me not to just worry about my grades because colleges do not like book worms. Colleges like kids who show they can manage many activities while still maintain a solid 4+ GPA. This attitude has been a positive for me because now I am in many extra-curricular activities including playing Varsity lacrosse, being on the Academic Bowl team, and playing two instruments. Without my parents I could most definitely see myself being a book worm, but thanks to them shaping the attitude that colleges look at more than just grades I have become more outgoing. My parents influence on my view n attitude of college has most definitely been a positive one, and thanks to them, so far, I have been very…

One of my reasons for wanting to go to college is that I wanted to have a better life. I didn’t want to live my life, paycheck to paycheck, and worrying about whether or not I am going to have enough money to pay to keep a roof over my head; also I want to support my family. My parents never went to college and while they both have decent jobs and worked hard to get at the top of their fields, but it’s still would have been easier for them if they had gone to college but they did not have the opportunity that I did. I am the 4th one in my immediate family to go to college so my other three older sisters went to college; I had someone to follow luckily. While I watched my sisters go to college I got a sense that I should go to college. Plus, at a young age I was not pushed but in a sense yes I was pushed into college, I would say more influenced. One of the reasons I was “pushed”/influenced into college is because my dad wanted all his kids to have a better life than him did. You have to see that my…

I have had interactions with family members—one of which includes my mother—in regards to my college career. Since I have taken time off from school to do things like get a job to eat and pay rent, I have put college in the background for a number of years. Thus, I have had uncomfortable conversations about why I have not finished school. This conversation took place leading to the time of entering the BASS program here at CSU Stanislaus. I remember getting upset, not sure at myself or my family members, because I was dangerously approaching the age of thirty and did not have a college degree. It was most difficult getting compared to other uncles and cousins in my family who are school teachers, school administrators, doctors, pharmacist,…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…
