Why I Want To Pursue A Career As A Primary Education
I have decided to apply for a primary education course as I enjoy working with young students and I am passionate about helping the future generations with their education. In sixth form I study four subjects including: BTEC science, Applied Business, Applied I.C.T and BTEC Health and Social. These courses all provide me with a good skill set in order to study for a primary education degree. The subjects I am doing provide me with appropriate skills for this course as Health and Social required me to do a work placement for 100 hours. For this placement I decided to work at All Saints National Primary School. It was through this work placement that I learned that teaching was the career for me. As well as this I do I.C.T. which in this day and age is a relevant course to do, especially for teachers, considering the amount of technology they have to use daily. I also do BTEC science and Applied Business these subjects do provide me with skills such as essay writing and organisational skills that are required to be a teacher. …show more content…
Since starting my work placement I have worked with a range of different year groups but mainly Years 1/2. I also did a work placement for a week at this school in July 2016 this was done with a Years 3/4 class. I have done a variety of different tasks when I have been at my work placement which has resulted in me having to work one on one with students or sometimes work with a group of students and this has helped me improve my communication skills. I have helped mark assessments and even given feedback to students so to help them further improve. I am currently still doing my work

I am a voluntary classroom assistant in a Primary school, mixed year group 1 and 2 class. The class does not have a paid teaching assistant and I am therefore fortunate with my involvement in the classroom. I work in partnership with the classroom teacher and student teacher in preparing and delivering learning activities. For example, I ensure that the correct children’s books are ready alongside any other learning resources required. Whilst the classroom teacher is teaching I ensure that the children are not distracted and are behaving in line with the golden rules. I sit with the children and quietly re focus them if required. I am responsible for various groups of children when they are doing their learning exercises. This includes ensuring they understand the work set, supporting them in completing set work and managing their behaviour. I also do 1 on 1 reading, whereby I take individual children to the library and give them my full attention with no distractions. I write in their reading log books and change their…

I am especially glad that I have been able to see how this course will compliment my plans to become a primary teacher, with specific examples being used within school settings. This had been playing on my mind prior to the course as to how useful these skills will be, yet during this first session my uncertainty has diminished and I am confident that I will learn skills for my future career and benefit many everyday situations.…

When looking back at my first placement I have identified numerous ways in which I can improve myself in order to create the best practise when working with children. One main thing I identified when analysing my practise on my first placement was my attendance, I allowed problems at home to affect my work placement which wasn't showing to the children that I was a reliable person they can rely on and trust, by using reflective practise I now know where I went wrong and how I can improve it on my next placement, for example I know that the childrens needs must come first above my own so no matter what circumstances I face outside placement it cannot affect my practise and I can no longer let the children down by not attending, they rely on me as a reliable practitioner that they can trust to be there and be there for them. Another thing I identified when reflecting back on my previous practise was my lack of communication and confidence when speaking to other professionals within the setting, by identifying this I can create targets for example talking to at least 2 supervisors a certain amount of times in a day then gradually building it up. This will then ensure that at my next placement I develop the confidence to speak up to my fellow workers and ask questions to further improve my practise.…

I can clearly remember from a young age trying to help my younger family members with their school work. I enjoyed helping people, as I progressed through life, I liked coaching members of my team but never pursued it any further until one morning I woke up and decided that I no longer wished to work in a bank. I longed for a change and whilst I was on maternity leave, I looked into the possibility of entering teaching. I cannot afford this I thought, I must be mad wanting to leave a perfectly good job and go back to university, oh well I'll just apply and see what happens..... 6 months later and I'm holding an acceptance letter, was I really going to do this.... YES.…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

Over the past two years I have gained two qualifications in childcare. The first qualification gained was Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma. I then went onto obtain an NVQ Level 2 in childcare whilst doing a apprenticeship for one year. During this period I had one study day per week for the theory part of the course and a two day placement in a nursery gaining work experience with infants from 0-4 years old. Gaining the work experience as well as the qualification gave me the confidence to apply for nursery nurse positions when my apprenticeship had ended. Shortly after I had my first interview and was offered a permanent position working in a nursery. After a couple months I had settled in well and began to consider undertaking a higher qualification ( NVQ Level 3 in Childcare). I enquired about courses online that would accommodate home study which would in turn enable me to continue in fulltime employment. I then found a training centre that would allow me to complete the course in 8-12 months from home, so I continued to work fulltime and was allocated with a tutor that I would meet up with monthly in the nursery setting to go through the course units. There were four different observations over the 12 month period that my tutor had to carry out in order to track my progress and monitor my interaction with the children.…

I decided to explore these opportunities as they provided an opportunity to work with children as I have an interest in becoming a teacher. My identified work opportunities will enhance the flourishing of myself as it will teach me to be more patient, communicate better, develop leadership skills and provide me with the chance to learn how to deal with different types of people. Moreover, these work opportunities provides a chance for me to improve public speaking which I struggle with, allow me to create networking, and gain teaching abilities. The gap in these work experiences are that although it provides me with an opportunity to work with children however, it includes working in small groups rather than an entire class of 25-35 students. A method to fill this gap can be that to work as a teacher assistant so it gives a preview of what the environment of teaching several students with one person, the teacher is charge is like.…

I realise from my study, that there are discrepancies in my current job. I work as trainer teaching various one to two day mandatory courses to mainly health care professionals. I am not involved in any pre-course screening or assessments. At the beginning of my course, I screen and assess the learners during the introductions, to find out where they are starting from and what experience they have in the subject. I then decide from the information given to me, and after negotiating with the learners if there is anything particularly they would like to do regarding that specific subject. I have a basic session plan to work from. If I were to change my job, I feel that I am now more aware of what needs to do implemented, prior to learning, during and after.…

My main reason for applying for Early Childhood Education is because I love children. I love working with them. I come from a bigger family. I am the oldest out of five children. I would take care of them all from time to time when ever my parents would go out for a night. Sometimes my parents would leave overnight to go on a little vacation by themselves and I would watch my siblings overnight. I also use to babysit for other people around our community as I was growing up. As I got older and started to think about college, I knew that I wanted to attend a great school that would have a program for Education.…

I enjoy being in the classroom for several reasons. First, I find it very rewarding working with children and helping them to gain knowledge and grow as individual. Additionally, I enjoy the challenge of working with children who have difficulties in content areas or challenging students who are strong in certain content areas. Finally, I take pleasure in creating a warm and inviting classroom culture with my students.…
