Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In Early Childhood Education
My love of working with children inspired my decision to study a BA in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Derby. The degree has provided me with valuable knowledge regarding the cognitive, social and emotional development of a child and the importance of safeguarding children. It has shown me how children learn and the factors that can affect a child’s learning progress. I am motivated and passionate about being a part of the educational system in order to give children the skills and confidence that are so vital in order to help them prepare for the future.
I am applying for a PGCE as I want to make a positive difference to young children’s lives. I have a willingness to learn and teach, I understand the amount of dedication needed to become a teacher and I am ready for the challenge. I was able to work with year 2 children, aged 6-7 years, on a one-to-one basis, helping further their development in the vital skills that are reading and writing.
The feeling of accomplishment when the children I worked with understood something they previously could not understand was incredibly rewarding, and a feeling that forms a significant part of my motivation. It has also taught me the importance of gaining a good rapport with the children, in order for them to respect, trust and listen to you, as well as the need to stay calm when dealing with challenging pupils.
From my work experience in education, it is clear to me that I want to work with children in a school setting, as I am keen to make a positive impact on their lives, both academically and also generally. I believe that I possess the necessary skills to make a good teacher, including resourcefulness, communication, leadership, approachability, diplomacy and
