Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

Animal testing has improved and bettered life-saving medical care for both people and animals. Even though some may say that animal testing is wrong, there are very strict regulations that prevent an animal from being mistreated. Animal testing can advance the welfare of both humans and nonhumans animals. Animals are a lot of the time used to study the heart, lungs, or other organs of a human being, but they are also used to study how the human brain works. The brain is very complex and is responsible for communication, movement, perception, emotion, memory, etc. Structures and functions of the animal and human brain are pretty equal in function when compared. Animal research is very promising especially when we are talking about the brain. For example, research has helped improve mental illness drastically. Scientists have tested certain drugs on the animals to eliminate or aid in bettering mental health. However, not all treatments are dependent on drugs. Reinforcement, such as operant conditioning, is used as a technique as well.
Researchers must have a clear scientific purpose to perform any experiment on an animal. All procedures have to be humane and applicable by law. All staff/researchers need to be aware and comply with the guidelines. The facilities that house the animals need to be inspected twice per year and be a safe and healthy environment for the animals. If an animal is becoming extinct or endangered, then certain permits are required and has to be ethically acceptable. The animal should also have little or no discomfort throughout the study.
