Why Is Cheerleading Important To Me
Five, six, seven, eight…. Music is blaring. Everyone is counting. Each move must be sharp. Each face must be smiling. Every stunt must hit. This is cheerleading. It’s not the same cheerleading you see on the sidelines of a sports game. This is competitive cheer. For 11 years of my life, I have done cheerleading. After football season is over, cheerleaders have the option to stay for competition season when we compete against other cheerleaders from different parts of the county, state, and later, from different parts of the country. When I was younger and did recreational cheer, I did competition season a few times. Later in life during my freshman year of high school, I tried competitive season again. I remember the long, tiring practices filled with perfecting every single move, stunt, and jump. It was incredibly stressful, yet I still loved every second of it. Cheerleading really helped develop who I am today. …show more content…
It helped me develop leadership skills and unbreakable bonds with many friends. Going to cheer after a hard day at school really brightens my day. It’s the small things like hitting a perfect liberty in a stunt (when the flyer goes up on only one foot and tucks her other foot by her knee on the opposite side) or achieving a full-up to a liberty (when the flyer rotates 360° before hitting her liberty) that makes me happy. Cheer is helpful in teaching how important teamwork can be. In a stunt, everyone must work together or else the stunt will not go up. Though many disagreements might be presented over how a stunt fell, or how a certain move in the dance goes, compromises are made to ensure everything goes

In my opinion I think that Cheerleading should be a competitive sport because cheerleaders work as hard as all other sport players do. For example cheerleaders show muscle, athleticism and agility when practicing and cheering at games. Cheerleaders show muscle because they lift other people they throw and stack people on top of other people to make a pyramid. They show Agility because when doing cheers they have to make sharp and quick movements with their hands and their feet. I don’t think that it’s fair that cheerleading isn’t a competitive sport because it doesn’t involve a ball. That is why I think that cheerleading is just as much as a sport than any other…

Some of the stunt in cheerleading can be dangerous if you do not perform them correctly like the shoulder sit. A shoulder sit is when the front spot reaches up and back and joins hands with the flyer then the flyer step into pocket on your thigh and she swings over one of her legs then another .As Craig Peters states in Chants ,Cheers and Jumps“The base stands in a right lunge position in front of the flyer and, extends her arms above her head, reaches…

Competition cheer is one type of cheerleading. It is usually associated with a gym that teaches tumbling, gymnastics, and cheerleading all in one. Most of the squads have more than one coach such as a tumbling coach, a stunting coach, and a choreographer. Competition cheerleaders have one main objective which is to compete. Since they are competing, the squad must be dedicated to practicing and performing. The cheerleaders do not cheer for other sports such as basketball or football like in high school. They also do not use offense or defense cheers, but they use “competition cheers” instead. Just like being in other sports in school, you must try out to be on the team. Competition tryouts are a lot harder than in high school. You must go through…

Stunting and tumbling is a very important part of cheerleading. These activities not only use every muscle, but they also use them in every way they can be used. Stunting might not be as hard for the flyer, but the bases are working extremely hard. The bases hamstrings, quadriceps, and gluteal muscles are the powerhouse you should get most of your strength in stunting from. In your upper body, you use your deltoid muscles in your shoulders, your pectoralis major and minor muscles in your chest, and your latissmus dorsi muscles in your back. You use these muscles to lift other cheerleaders above your head, to tumble, and even hit basic arm motions. Tumbling also uses extreme amounts of muscle power. During the back handspring takeofff and landing, the quadriceps and gluteal muscles produce the most power. The main muscles of the lower legs used by cheerleaders constantly to point, and jump are the gastrocnemius, soleus, peroneus longus, extensor digitorum…

The first point I would like to raise Is, how is cheerleading different from any other sport? An official sport has to include physical activity, competition, and a winner has to be declared. Cheerleading meets all of those. There is lots of physical movement in cheerleading. They are doing flips, running around, and sometimes there is dance in some of the routines. Cheer does have competition teams and if your competing against another team a winner is obviously going to be declared. Many Americans say, in cheerleading you don’t have an object like a ball. Many sports do not, take cross country for example they don’t use an object but they are still running around and being active just like in cheerleading.…

I recall being the youngest girl, cheering with others several years older than me, when I began Area Youth Football cheerleading way back at the age of five. I had tried other sports such as soccer and basketball, however they didn't electrify me as cheerleading did. I instantly fell in love with the sport of cheerleading. To this day, I would not even consider changing my commitment to cheerleading, for it has positively influenced my life and taught me countless lessons that will stick with me forever.…

After countless games, practices, and competitions, nothing quite compares to standing on the eight panel mat in front of thousands of unfamiliar faces or a high school football game on Friday night. It is a unique atmosphere where there is an air of utter togetherness and positive energy that I have never experienced anywhere else during my four years of cheering. Although it is the most intense, stressful, and time-consuming activity I have participated in, cheerleading means the world to me. Needless to say, cheerleading has had a tremendous impact on my life and I have learned valuable life lessons from this amazing sport.…

Cheerleading is more than just wearing a short skirt, a stiff glittery bow and a shell crop top with your team’s name across the chest, but it's a sport that involves the performance of organized, chanting and dancing in support of a sports team at games. In cheerleading, the choreography plays an important role through a sequence of movements of physical bodies. The choreography also refers to the design itself. Indeed, when it comes to the choreography of cheering, I thrive more than any cheerleader I know. While other girls cheer for the cuteness, I cheer because cheerleading has become my passion for dance, for movement and for the choreography of cheering and its beauty. Rather than going through the motion like other cheerleaders, I feel as if I am the motion.…

“You are not an athlete.” Tanya said. “You do nothing, except stand around on the sidelines half-cheering.” Jaqueline added. “That’s not true! Us cheerleaders are NOT some rec team. We are all-star cheerleaders. There’s a difference. We put in hundreds of hours of work we put into a two and a half minute routine.” I fired back. “Whatever.” Tanya said and walked away with Jaqueline snickering next to her. The activity of cheerleading should be a sport for many reasons. It has many risks, and requires rigorous training. Over 1.5 million people all over the world participate in cheerleading, and that is just all-star. Cheerleading should be considered a sport.…
