In comparison both dance and football have many alike comparisons. For example both sports require a serious amount of physical strength to endure the training, and performances in each. Dancers are required to complete a series of explosive movements such as jumps, kicks, leaps, …show more content…
and turns while maintaining the fluidity of each movement into the other. Strength training in dance is a very serious aspect which can prevent injuries, enhance performance, and increase the longevity of the dancers dance career.
Likewise football requires a great deal of strength to be able to block the other opposing team in order to take the win. In order for football players and dancers to be able to continuously perform these actions they have to constantly train. Dancers and football players train not only during their on-season, but during their off-season as well. Along with the amount of physical strength both sports take, the mental complexity of each shows major similarities. Both sports require to be at the top of your game no matter what. For instance, whereas football players need to know constantly be aware of where the ball is and where his teammates and opponents are located, dancers must be aware of their body positions, the timing of the music, and their partners positions and moves. Each sport requires a great deal of hand-eye coordination and the ability to be aware of their surroundings. Along with both dance and football requiring an extreme amount of physical strength and mental complexity, they both are two of the most injury prone sports. Dance and
football may be all fun and games, and you may even be at the top of your game, but a simple tear in the knee or shoulder could end your career before you even reached your peak. Many dancers and football players careers are cut short by the littlest injuries. Meaning even though they could be healed they could never perform on the stage or get another winning touchdown for your team. Hearing that you could never do the sport you love ever again in your life could be devastating and life changing.
Although dance and football have many similar aspects, they also have many differences that set them apart from each other. When you imagine a ballet dancer you usually picture a long, lean, and poised ballerina, whereas when you picture a football player you picture a stocky, broad, and stout jock. With these two images in mind, trying to picture a dancer in the form of a football player and a football player with the appearance of a dancer seems absolutely ludicrous. Along with the differences of appearances of each athlete, how both athletes present themselves distinguishes them from each other. Dancers whether onstage or off do not make noises while doing complicated combinations. Dancers neither grunt nor land hardly and sound like elephants running through a room. Football players on the other hand grunt and make loud noises the whole time they are on the field or in practice. Another contrasting difference between dance and football is between what they are catching. When dancers must dance in pairs their career is in their partners hands. When performing pas de deux, both partners need to be one hundred percent focused on the other and be precise with each lift. If the male partner especially, is off by just one count that could cause their partner to fall and pull a muscle in their back or if the partner is on pointe they could pull their achilles tendon, which would cause their dance career to be over with. Football players on the other hand only have to catch a ball. They don't have to worry about ending someone else’s career. Football players only need to worry about catching the ball, passing the ball, and not dropping the ball.
When comparing dance to football many can’t think of any comparisons, but between the two sports they have many similarities but their comparisons outweigh them. Although there are differences between dance and football such as their appearance, how each athlete presents themselves, and what they're catching, they are both considered sports.
