High school dance isnt your typical studio
Pirouettes, jumps, leaps, and basic technique is what all dancers have in common. For whether one is dancing by themselves or with a team they all share the basics of dance, but teams will differ based on who they are dancing for. High school dance teams are more team oriented and are better for the dancer than being on a studio dance team. They styles each use also differ, from the technique they use to the types of dance themselves. Lastly, the way each competition is run and how the judges judge each type of dance differ. I myself have danced in studio for 13 years and on the dance team all throughout high school, and I know others who have done the same. All dancers that I have talked to have said that being on a high school dance team has been more beneficial to them, and more enjoyable than being on a studio competition team.

There may be a lot, emphasis on a lot, of drama during the season, but that is only because they want the dance to be perfect for the common goal of winning state. The competition dancers may become close but without the constant contact that the high school team has, a lesser bond that is formed between the girls. On

As a group, sit down to brainstorm, discuss and decide upon a social or political issue that you want to explore through movement. Examples of social/political issues are: homelessness, oppression, environmental issues, corporate avarice, racism, domestic violence, racial profiling, but there are many, many issues that can be explored in addition to those mentioned above. You may wish to bring in source material (a photograph, a poem/song, a painting, news clip, a personal story, etc., related to the social/political issue. Using the source material as a starting point, independently create a phrase of movement for yourself that is 32 counts in length utilizing at least 8 of the movement elements listed below. The composition should be between 3-4 minutes long. You may set your dances to recorded music, a sound collage of your own creation or they may utilize text (pre-recorded or spoken in performance). Silence is also an option. Try to avoid music with lyrics that describe your issue. You should aim to explore and portray your topic through movement, sound and/or text. Likewise football requires a great deal of strength to be able to block the other opposing team in order to take the win. In order for football players and dancers to be able to continuously perform these actions they have to constantly train. Dancers and football players train not only during their on-season, but during their off-season as well. Along with the amount of physical strength both sports take, the mental complexity of each shows major similarities. Both sports require to be at the top of your game no matter what.
