Cheetos (formerly called Chee-tos until 1998) is a brand of cheese-flavored, puffed cornmeal snack made by Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo. Fritos creator Charles Elmer Doolin invented Cheetos in 1948, and began national distribution in the U.S. The initial success of Cheetos was a contributing factor to the merger between The Frito Company and H.W. Lay & Company in 1961 to form Frito-Lay. In 1965 Frito-Lay became a subsidiary of The Pepsi-Cola Company, forming PepsiCo, the current owner of the Cheetos brand.…

Take corn tortillas from the grocery store, ideally the blue corn because it is not genetically modified, and spread the desired amount on a cookie sheet. Lightly brush with olive oil or butter (2 tablespoons should cover the whole pack). Skip the olive oil/butter for extra crispy chips. Add a dash of sea salt. For extra flavor sprinkle on some paprika, cayenne, and chili powder (about 1/8 of a teaspoon of each). Using a pizza cutter cut the tortillas into wedges. Bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping the chips about half way. Keep an eye on them to make sure they do not burn. Of course, store bought chips will also work well with the guacamole recipe, but they are not as much…

There are many different ways to make a burrito. The History of the Burrito, which I mentioned before, states that an authentic Mexican burrito is usually made with one or two fillings, while our form of the burrito is made with many fillings. Some of their fillings include meat, beans, chili rajas, potatoes, or asadero cheese. We fill our burritos with some of these ingredients. Our burrito also includes sour cream, salsa, many different cheeses, guacamole, or many other things. A New Mexican burrito includes one ingredient with or without cheese. There are also different forms of the burrito. A…

    Foods of Mexico: Salsa

When I hear the word Mexico, images of mouthwatering enchiladas and quesadillas come to mind. And of course, salsa. Salsa may not seem very unique, but its history stretches back to the time that the Aztecs ruled Mexico (Dumois). The Aztecs used salsas and guacamoles to transform “something as tasteless as white chicken breast into a real delicacy, worthy enough to be served on the most sophisticated and elegant table” (Dumois). Salsa is made from ingredients that are already in Mexico, such as red tomatoes, onion, garlic, chiles, and cilantro, also known as coriander (Dumois) (Sherril C.). Some salsas are based on little green tomatoes, or tomatillos, and sometimes even chocolate is used to make certain salsas (Dumois). Mexican cuisine has a wide variety of influences due to the colonization during the Age of Exploration and trade between people from various countries and continents. In a word, Mexican food is a result of several, diverse culinary influences and therefore a mixture of varied cooking styles and ingredients in various cultures (Manohar).…

When one thinks of Mexican food one probably has cheese sauce and chips come to mind. Mexican food has become a huge part of American life, for example salsa outsells Ketchup in America. (Navarrette, 2011) Almost every town has a Mexican restaurant, and even my little town has a very popular Mexican restaurant. During this project I decided to take home a menu from El Mariachi’s, my local Mexican restaurant. Of course there was one main theme…taco or burrito shells. Almost every dish was served in a taco or a burrito shell or they were served on the side. (Lunch menu, 2010). The reason behind the popularity of taco and burrito shells is simple, corn. According to Peyton, corn has been one of the biggest crops grown in Mexico for four-thousand…

    Mexican Food In America

    • 722 Words
    • 3 Pages

To begin, the contents of enchiladas differs in the U.S. and in Mexico. In restaurants, and even most American homes, enchiladas are made with beef or chicken wrapped in store bought flour tortillas. Meanwhile, in Mexico they are made with a corn tortilla and most often filled with cheese. The preparation also differs between the two nations. In America, for example, they are topped with a red or green sauce, maybe even a package mix and then baked in the oven. Finally, just before eating they are topped with lettuce sour cream and salsa. Whereas in Mexico the sauce is made entirely from scratch with dried chilies that have been boiled, and then ground with garlic and other ingredients. Sometimes they even use mole sauce which can be a meal of its own. The tortilla is dipped in the sauce then fried. Once the tortilla is fried place cheese in the center and roll it up while still warm; now add the toppings and enjoy a delicious authentic Mexican…
