Why School Should Start Later
School or sleep, which is more important? “Starting the school day too early is an issue, kids simply need to start at a reasonable hour so they can preform up to their potential.” (Rush) As Andre Rush has stated, starting school too early is a big problem. Kids need their sleep to be able to function and focus on the tasks set ahead for them on that day and the days to follow. Getting enough sleep isn’t only a mental problem, but it is also a physical and emotional problem. Many students have jobs or activities to attend after school, when you combine that with homework and other duties, it becomes overwhelming to start so early. School should start later in the morning because of time consuming homework, late ending times to after school activities and various other activities, as well as being able to have a proper sleep schedule. First off, homework might be time consuming. Many students have multiple classes where they have assignments, and when you combine all the homework together it may take hours to do. This could be a bigger issue if you don’t understand certain homework and it is too late at night to ask anybody for help. …show more content…
By the time you get home it might be late and then you have homework to do, like mentioned earlier. For example, a game gets done at 9 o’clock at night. By the time the student gets home it is 9:30. They still have to do their chores and have an hour of homework to do. When they finish all of it, it is 11:00. That means they would only get seven hours of sleep, if they needed to be up and ready by 8 o’clock when school is supposed to start. Activities might also happen in the morning, such as practice for a sport. When that happens, kids have to be up at a time like 5:30 in the morning just to get to practice on time before school. Then they have to go to school, and by then the day drags on, as they get more
