Why Should Schools Have Anti-Bullying Programs
Why schools should have anti-bullying programs:

I believe that schools should have anti-bullying programs because 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Some students don’t know how to stop bullying because teachers and parents haven’t addressed what to do if they are being bullied. Schools should have anti-bullying programs because 160,000 students are missing school each day. So if schools have anti-bullying programs, student absences will cut down, it will improve the dropout level, students will learn how to prevent bullying.

Students in all different grades think that the best thing to do is to tell a teacher. But study shows that teachers will only intervene 4% of the time. If teachers will only intervene 4% of the time, now students are forced to handle bullying and try to stop bullying by themselves. Students in the grades 4th-8th admit that they are victims of bullying. Some students have no given clue what to do if they are being bullied. Since teachers will only intervene to stop bullying 4% of the time I believe that schools should have anti-bullying programs.

I believe that there should be anti-bullying programs in school because it will cut down on student absences, improves dropout, and students will learn how to prevent bullying in and outside of schools. Every single teacher working at a elementary school, middle school, or high school should all get together at a big meeting to discuss why schools should have anti-bullying programs by researching bullying and finding statistics. If all the teachers agree to have anti-bullying programs in schools bullying will slowly stop.

Schools all over America are adopting these Anti-Bullying campaigns in order to help avoid these bullying issues. What the campaigns do is that they focus on teaching kids courage and self-confidence, educating people on how to see the signs, teaching self-esteem, establishing safe havens, and getting communities and other people to get involved in the campaigns. The movement is not only just help for the kids, but it also helps the parents so that they can also help their kids if bullying is happening to their children. Studies have shown that absenteeism and drop out rates are higher due to bullying. Students that are picked on are afraid to go to school because they fear they may get beat up or worse. A seventh grader that was a target for several years told his parents that he was being bullied and his parents sued the school district. Unfortunately the boy was so afraid of more harassment about the lawsuit that he ended up dropping out anyway. There are several other cases just like this one. Students should not be afraid to attend school. School is one of the most important things in a child’s life and these bullies are taking away their education. Educators in Tennessee say that, “Students whose education is disrupted for a period of time may have difficulty catching up and may eventually drop out of school” (Billitteri 152). Bullies do interrupt learning in the fact that a child who is harassed may have to sit all day in a class with the person who is harassing him, how well would this student concentrate? It has come so far that even teachers are starting to quit because they feel they can not handle the pressure anymore of having to discipline so many children for bullying. When a teacher…

Bullying has become an epidemic, and it needs to come to an end. If people will stand up for each other and protect each other, I believe bullying would cease to be effective. It preys on those who do not have the confidence to defend themselves. Often times, the bully hurts others as a way of protecting himself. He believes that if he attacks others, then they will not know he himself is hurting, or has been hurt in the past. It becomes a coping mechanism for him. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that bullying should not be responded to with more violence. They need to be shown love, but firm love. A love that says, “I love you enough to not let you continue down this path. Let me show you another way.” Then you are not only l protecting those that the bully hurts, but also you are protecting the bully himself in the long run.…

In today's society it is hard for schools and adults to properly identify and deal with bullying. It is hard to ignore the fact that most bullying goes unnoticed or unreported in schools, a place where adults are constantly present. With the exposure bullying has gotten in recent years people would think that schools have sophisticated methods of dealing with bullying, however this is not the case in most schools. Throughout many schools it can be seen that not enough is done to resolve the bullying and harassment happening on a day to day bases. Many schools work very hard in hopes that one day bullying will end, but it is hard for schools to know what to classify as bullying or harassment, since most of it can start outside of school grounds…

The sad thing is that every 1 in 7 students in each grade are either a bully or has been a victim of bullying. No one has the right to think they anyone is lesser than them. No one has the right to put anyone down. The only way we can deal with bullies is to stand up to them, show them that the way they are treating others is unacceptable, and needs to be changed. Bullies expect that people treat them with respect, but they do not show that to anyone! Bullying is taking over schools, and it needs to be controlled.…

Bullying needs to be stopped! The United States needs better laws to prevent bullying. How much more can teens take? I think laws need to be passed as soon as possible because bellying can cause you to get sick and I don’t mean you don’t have confidence in yourself anymore. WAY too many teens die from suicide each year because of bullying. The commercials on TV don’t scare bullies enough to get them to stop. We need better laws with better punishments!…
