The New York Times front-page explain the incident of what happened on the Lusitania. It stated, that 1,260 people were dead because of the Germans, they blew up the passenger ship. The incident described in the New York Times encouraged people to get involved in World War One because since the U.S. didn't declare war they couldn't defend themselves and stop the German. This built up anger in people which encouraged them to want to go to war. Document is a political cartoon of President Wilson writing a letter made in 1917 ( primary source). In this cartoon the president is seen writing letters to Congress about wanting to join the world war, because of the sinking of the Lusitania. Similar to document 1 America was getting frustrated. Since the Germans sunk our ships without warning and we did not have any way to defend ourselves, it wasn't our best option anymore. On April, 2nd 1917 President Wilson declares war, he gave a speech explaining all of our reasons for getting involved ( secondary source). Two reasons we must go to war against Germany are for democracy in Europe and for the rights and Liberties of small Nations( imperialism). Our reasons for wanting to join the war are that we need to help our allies fight for democracy. We are fortunate enough to have a democracy and it was our duty to ensure they have a voice. This document was a poster at the time of World War One ( primary source). This poster Illustrated a visual of the biggest gun, it is portrayed the biggest gun in the war for democracy was American industry. America's greatest strength is our industry, our ability to make products like weapons quickly. This is how we helped the allied cause. We could produce and make weapons for the Allies faster than the enemies could produce weapons for themselves, this is how we help the Allied cause before we entered the war. This document is a poster, its purpose is to encourage immigrants that live in America to donate and preserve food for the allies fighting in World War 1 ( primary source). The poster includes a picture of immigrants on a boat at the Statue of Liberty. It states “ food will win the war”... “ food is needed for the Allies waste nothing”. In addition to that it also States “ you came here seeking Freedom now preserve it”.
