Why Working In Groups Are Better Than Working In Groups
Independence is most important to people who seek being alone and doing everything on their own. Most people do not appreciate the help the help of others. Working in groups may be helpful but not always the right choice. People have problems learning, get distracted more easily, and they only get one overall grade that is shared throughout the group. When working in a group, learning is very difficult. People do not understand the whole assignment only the part that they are assigned. When working independently may take longer but its more beneficial to ones understanding. There are no distractions when working by ones self. Working in a group causes complications with distractions. People seem to doze off and communicate more rather than do work. When working in a group it is not fair that everyone gets the same grade especially to those who do most of the work they have to share the same grade and give credit to someone who has done no work. This does not give the people who have done no work at all the a learning advantage, this only gives them the idea it is ok for others to do their work for them and its okay to be lazy when in reality it is not. Working in groups compared to working alone are two separate situations. Working in groups cause problems with learning, distractions, and the overall grade. When working individually a person does not face all three of these complications because they are given the opportunity to learn on their own with no distractions and their own individual grade. Working alone is better than working in a group, it provides more

Some of the positive points about doing a paper alone is that all the resources will be reliable and valid for the paper, there is no argument with others, and the writer’s ideas are going to be the only ones used for the paper. Negative points about working alone are the amount of time used by only one person to do all the work, it might take long hours to be able to find use all the resources and find what is needed to complete the paper. Another negative point about working individually is the lack of support by others, no suggestions or opinions from others about the paper could be difficult, there is always good to have another set of eye to review your work or extra help from someone to maybe see or think from a different point of view and also to ensure that the material covered is the correct material to avoid submitting a bad paper, which at the end, there is only one person to blame for, the writer. In most cases, during the learning process to write a paper, it is not up to the student the decision to work as a team or alone, but once again, it is a learning process where mistakes are going to be made, either working collaboratively or individually, a lesson is learned that in the long run will result on the improvement…

Initially, I had a negative view on group working because of the challenges that I had. When I was in high school, my five other friends and I used to work together in a music competition. Although we were supposed to get together to practice for the event, we were only able to meet up once a week. In addition to having a hard time with time scheduling, we often did not have a consensus of opinion. Whenever we had a discussion, we usually ended up with no results. So it always took a long time for us to make a decision. Consequently, the performance did not turn out as well as we expected. Because of this initial failure, I thought group work was time consuming and ineffective. However, I have changed my opinion lately because of the successful results in some of my laboratory classes. In each laboratory assignment, it is nearly impossible to work by myself because there are a lot of steps and each step needs to be very precise and accurate. Therefore, a group of two or three students will work more effectively compared to an individual because they can help to remind each other and finish the assignment faster. Based on those experiences, one more time I give myself a chance to work in a group and figured out how work effectively. Finally, thank to the Small group communication class, I found out that group work can become very productive if all the members in the group cooperate and follow the principles of small group communication. In this paper, I want to talk…

When I work alone, I rely on myself to keep track of all parts of the task I’m working on, which can at times prove stressful. However, working with my group on this project meant that I wasn’t required to take care of everything, and that I could depend on the other members to complete their parts of the project, which brought a little peace to my mind and allowed me to work somewhat more effectively as I researched and wrote the paper. My group members also influenced me in that they offered different approaches to research and were able to show me methods and interpretations that I myself had not thought of. These different perspectives brought together allowed me to become more efficient and successful at using resources and thinking through problems I encountered during the project. Also, during the writing process, my group members gave me their opinions and input regarding my work, and in some cases they pointed out mistakes and inconsistencies which I had not recognized in my own work. This not only improved my writing and the paper overall, it allowed me to recognize those mistakes in the future and become a stronger writer and better member of the group. Overall, working with my group for this project proved beneficial in creating better conditions for research and writing, as our unique standpoints brought together shaped the paper and the project…

It is argued that group work helps students to develop self-confidence. Many first year students tend to segregate themselves from discussions due to lack of self-confidence. According to Mercer (2011 p. 14) A students self-confidence is based on the judgement that one makes of their actual and perceived capabilities to communicate and perform tasks effectively. Therefore, it is imperative that students build on their self confidence in order to be able to send and receive clear, accurate and useful information that is relevant to the group discussion (Brilhart & Galanes, 1997 p. 51). This will help students to receive clarification from other group members and give them the confidence to participate effectively in group work. Johnson and Johnson (2009, p. 73) argues that “Working cooperatively with peers, and valuing cooperation, results in greater psychological health, higher self-esteem, and greater social competencies than does competing with peers or working independently.” Therefore, it is very important that students participate in group…
