Will Hard Work Pay Off?
“Sometimes there's not a better way. Sometimes there's only the hard way.” ― Mary E. Pearson. Will hard work pay off? Or is hard work just a waste of time and effort? In the story that I am going to share, the questions will no longer be left unanswered.
It all started when I was 9 years old, my teachers and parents were disappointed of what I am doing at school. History was not my best subject and I didn't know anything about it. My average in class was 72. I was so disappointed about myself. During history lessons I didn't pay attention to what the teacher says. I wasted a lot of time. I couldn't keep my average like that, it was the end of the year and if I fail the class I will have to retake it all over again. All my friends didn't believe in me and they said she is a failure. I went to tutorials everyday after school for 2 hours to improve my grade. I also asked my teacher to help me in homework and classwork. I did everything that can to prove to my friends, family, and teachers that I am not a failure. One week after my average increased to an 90. I was so proud of my self because I knew I can do better and improve.
One day, all of my hard work will pay off and all of the people who didn't believe in me will have a front row seat to watch my success. “Sometimes there's not a better way. Sometimes there's only the hard way.” ― Mary E. Pearson. Will hard work pay off? Or is hard work just a waste of time and effort? In the story that I am going to share, the questions will no longer be left unanswered.

When I began my senior year of high school, I was tired and unmotivated and chose to give up and not put my full effort into all my school work. I was so excited, my last year of high school. I was always told since I was a freshman that your junior year would be the hardest and the most important because those are the grades that colleges will mostly be looking at and that your senior year would be the easiest because you're mostly taking electives and you only need to focus on you main courses such as economics and english to graduate. When I started school this year I put off all my homework till last minute, I was absent more than usual, my work was sloppy, and I wasn't really participating. I kept thinking that all I need is a 65 in…

As a student, grades are very important to me. I have never failed a class, and I always strive to earn an A. I always try to do my best. In all honesty, I don’t like school much. My favorite class so far this year has to be either French or ACT. A few of my academic strengths are that I’m a great listener, I don’t like to waste time when I could be getting work done, and I check my work a lot to make sure it is correct or near correct. My academic weaknesses are that I won’t ask questions if I need help and most of the time the topics don’t interest me. I like figuring problems out on my own because I learn better that way, but it can be a bad thing if I really don’t understand the problem at all. In those cases, I don’t know where to start fixing my problem.…

Everyone wants good grades throughout their years in school, mainly in high school. I am more of a math and science person, other subjects like history and government. Topics like politics, the constitution, the United States Government, political parties and anything else having to do with Government class I had no interest in when I signed up for classes. I know this is something that I should be keeping up to date on because of the upcoming election and everything that changes with the government. The spring of my sophomore year I was looking for different classes to take, I saw AP Government. I thought I could do well in that class, I was motivated to learn something new and excel at something I was not very interested in. The first day of junior year came quickly. Then the first AP government test came even quicker. I studied the night before for hours thinking positive thoughts and finding funny ways to remember different answers. Going into the test I thought I was ready, but when I saw the test I froze. Thinking different thoughts like “When did we learn this?” or “Why did I take this class?”. I pushed all the negative thoughts to the side and completed the test to the best of my ability. The day we got our test back I looked down and about cried. I had never done that bad on a test.…

As I got older and got into high school, things got really ugly my freshman year. Hanging out with the wrong crowd changed my whole perspective on school and how I should apply my knowledge to school work. I can honestly say that my highest grade was probably a C out of the whole year. The beginning of my life changing didn’t take place till my sophomore year when I met my older cousin who decided to be hard on me in school. Part of that was him keeping me into football and other sports he thought I would be good in. It wasn’t till junior year in high school where I really took football…

People who heard what I wanted to become kept criticizing the fact that I won't get admitted to an aviation university, that it is hard to get it; it made me think that they were not believing that I can make it to that same level because girls in our community are likely not to be that intelligent to make such progress after all they are taken to be the dumbest in the society.I got confused when I started failing in class that what I heard wasn’t a lie at all as it happened to me,I thought about giving up but then after a movie about genocide survivors who got more failures and terrible crushes;rose up and made up their minds to work hard to rebuild what was lost I felt…

For the majority of my life, education has never been a lifelong goal. Education was a mandatory task; I was required to attend school every day. When I was a child, I would count down the years until I would graduate from high school. That being said, I was afraid to do poorly in school. Even though school wasn’t exciting, I knew I needed to attend school to be able to lead a fulfilling life. In my mind, if I had failed in school I would never be truly joyful in life. I still had this frame of mind when I began to attend college classes. I knew it was important to maintain a high grade point average, but for my entire life I had been learning for the wrong reasons. I went to school every day and stayed on the honor roll because I was afraid.…

I have never enjoyed school because it hasn’t inspired me. Even though I wasn’t determined, I knew I had to get good grades for everyone in my family to be proud of me. Unfortunately, I was failing my Geometry class which made it hard to communicate with everyone at home. Before Geometry I would rarely, if ever, receive D’s or F’s on any tests but then I was constantly getting those horrendous grades. I recall coming home and getting my phone, computer privileges and everything else taken away from me because of my grades. My mother thought taking my things away would make me study instead, I would sleep or read all day when I got home. At the time I thought I could never pass his class and I was starting to accept my failing grades.…

I believe that working hard now pays off later in life. I have always believed this statement ever since I got my first job. My father always told me the real world would kick my butt, but I never believed him until now. I used to work for an ice company in Batesville called Cube Ice. It was very hard work but the pay was good. The company took out money to go towards my retirement and out for taxes. My grandfather told me from experience that the money that they take out for retirement helps out later on in life.…
