Throughout the years I have read many pieces of literature. Some of the literature I have read has been forgettable, while others I will never forget. A Child Called It is the most memorable book I have ever read. David Pelzer wrote this book about his life, and the abuse he endured from his mother. There are many reasons why this book is the most memorable book I have read. The different emotions I felt while reading this book I will never forget.
A Child Called It made me realize how common child abuse is. The abuse of a child can go on for years before anyone is aware that it is happening, and sometimes it is never detected. Reading this book opened my eyes to this harsh truth, and is something I think of often. The fact that a mother could cause so much pain and heartache to her own child is very hard for me to understand. I have always been shown so much love and support from my parents, it was hard to believe that not all parents treat their children the same way.
The detail that David Pelzer gave about his abuse, in the book A Child Called It, is another reason this is the most memorable book I have ever read. Knowing that child abuse exists is hard enough, but actually reading about the brutal beatings and how he was starved, by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother was very difficult. There were times while I was reading the book that I really did not want to continue reading, and other times that I could not read fast enough. Eventhough most of this book was heart-wrenching, it was also very inspiring. David's will to survive is another reason that A Child Called It is so memorable to me. Knowing that a young child can overcome such circumstances, with nothing more than his own will to succeed, is amazing to me.
Learning about how common child abuse is as well as how cruel people can be, are definitely reasons this book is memorable to me. More than just being memorable, this book is inspiring. A
