Claim Quote Comment Essay Example
Claim: I believe a team, no matter if it’s a football team or speech team, should be funded, awarded, and accepted equally.

Quote: “Nearly all of the graduating seniors will remember the name and escapades of their star quarterback; nearly none of them will ever even realize that their class produced Arizona’s first national champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate.”

Comment: I completely agree with this author. I think that not a lot of kids remember the nerds. I think they work just as hard if not harder than a star quarterback. They go through the same obstacles as the football team when it comes through training. I don’t think they get recognized enough. I was in NHS and not a lot of people at school even knew what that was. Let alone remember my name because I was in it. I believe sports are looked at as being better. They are socially accepted. And people strive to be popular.

Claim: An academic scholar and an athlete both put in effort for a common goal, victory.

In high school being a nerd is a fine line between being accepted and becoming a rejected. As you enter the school you will see a few students sitting on benches. Each of these benches will have one student, each with their head buried in a text book or a video game. This group of people may appear to be a clique but they do not socialize with each other. Giving the students who sit in this area the label “loners” or “socially awkward”. If this doesn’t seem like your kind of crowd, maybe the more social nerds will be the perfect fit. The social nerds ether have their own small group of friends or are extremely popular. If becoming popular is your goal in high school it will be in your best interest to be a student who participates in sports.…

John Wooden (NCAAB Hall of Fame coach) said, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” High school sports are usually beneficial to all parties involved, such as the athletes, parents and the schools that have the athletic programs. The athletes that play high school sports learn countless lessons on life, how to be healthy with exercise, and the extra incentive to keep up the grade to play these sports. Parents of high school athlete’s get an opportunity to watch their child succeed at something he or she loves. Parents can also benefit financially, when their child is good enough at a sport to get offered a scholarship which may pay for all of college. For a high school that has athletic programs the biggest pro is the amount of money to be made from things such as admissions, concessions stand sells, t-shirts…
