Self-Assessment Essay In college, writing essays becomes something you must get used too. Most classes require at least one essay to be completed. In my English class, we write the most essays. Writing essays isn’t easy for me though. I struggle in writing them because I have a hard time wording things, and have a lot of sentences that are too long. In this English class my goals are to improve my writing skills and reading skills. Another thing I would like to improve in my writing is expanding my vocabulary. Using strong and big words keeps the reader interested, and it sounds better. When I was younger I kept a journal. I wrote in it everyday. I mainly wrote about what was on my mind, and wrote down how I felt. It helped me to deal with my feelings better, and cope with them. I express myself better by writing down how I feel. Even though it was to nobody, I was able to let it all out on paper. Writing essays wasn’t just an assignment to do it class, it was more than that. At my high school there is an essay competition called “Laws Of Life”. In this essay, you had to pick a quote, any quote. It could be from song, a movie, or just quote by anybody. In the essay you write about why you chose that quote and how it relates to your life. The contest was among four high schools in our area. Each grade had a winner, and three honorable mentions. Each winner won an award of cash. You write an essay, submit it and finalists are chosen. Then, at a ceremony the winner is announced there. My sophomore year I wrote an essay, and won first place! A nice prize of $300. I was so proud that my writing touched the judges hearts and that readers were able to read my story. I was surprised that I won. I talked about my childhood experience, and my talent in running. Usually most people who write and win, don’t participate it in the following high schools years. I took a shot at it again my junior year,

On the self-assessment inventory, I scored between 76 and 88 out of 100 on each key competency except for the Change and Across Cultures competencies. My scores were within the numerical range for 68% of managerial professionals that completed this self-evaluation. For the most part, I see myself as very good on a number of the skills such as balancing my personal and work life, embracing uniqueness, supporting the goals of a team, and making ethical business decisions. For the Across Cultures competency, I am lacking in global experience and the skills to recognize the differences of various cultures and customs. In addition, I need to improve on recognizing, leading, and implementing adaptations when needed by teams and organizations.…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

To start off with, the overall environment of being part of an AP/IB English class all throughout high school has made a positive affect on me. This has not only affected my familiarization with college level essays but I know what is expected from a higher level english course. Introduction Admission to graduate school is highly competitive. Writing an essay, or personal statement, is often the most difficult part of the application process. Requirements vary widely, with some programs requesting only one or two paragraphs about why you want to pursue graduate study, and others requiring five or six separate essays in which you are expected to write at length about your motivation for graduate study, your strengths and weaknesses, your greatest achievements, and solutions to hypothetical problems. Business schools are notorious for requiring several timeconsuming essays. This handout is designed to provide some general guidance on how to write a successful essay. Essay Checklist: Start early enough to allow for several rewritings. Carefully review the instructions and prepare an outline of what you are to include. Write concisely. Demonstrate your ability to think and express ideas clearly. Articulate your motivation and capacity to succeed, and why you and this program are a good match. Use first person (“I”) and active voice. This essay is about you. Be unique and creative while still writing in a scholarly fashion. Keep the length to one or two pages.…

When writing an essay I usually do very bad, on my grammar mostly. Im not good with where my commas, semicolons, some quotation marks go. I need to work on my citations, thesis statements, and how to tie everything in to make a good conclusion. Other problems for me to work on are my transitional words, and how to stop using words repeatedly, word choice. Usage of the wrong verbs, pronouns, nouns and more. In high school we had to write papers that wasn’t really hard and they actually babied us . Therefore most students from high school going in to college like me are not ready for college level…

Essay writing was a major part of the class. We wrote essay on race and ethnicity, gay matters, language technique essays. Each essay taught us about a different style or form of writing. Comparison and contrast essays taught us how to write an essay comparing two similar things. This type of essay was my favorite to write. In my essay I compared the careers of Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. The most difficult essay for me to write was the argument essay in which we were to defend a point using strong argument skills. For my argument essay I supported the argument that rap music is music of resistance. I can honestly say my essay skills have improved tremendously over the course of this year thanks to the many skills learned in this class.…
