Someone who has had a positive effect in my life is my brother Warren, because he taught me to not settle for mediocrity. For example, when I was a sixteen-year-old freshman at Walbrook High School and the chances of my finishing high school were slim. I was a teenager with an attitude, living in a neighborhood that fostered troubled teenagers. My brother Warren not only was he a disciplinarian, but also he was a great teacher. He would never settle for my usual standard of school work. He pushed and prodded and never tolerated the mediocrity that had become my standard. On the occasion of our first semester report cards, my brother called me aside and asked how it was possible that I was a D student in my classes. I was not ready for that question. However, I passionately told him about all the evils that I had been subjected to when I was younger. When I finally did get my brother Warren on the telephone, I explained what his brutal honesty had meant to me, how I finally graduated
