Course Title: Basic Calculus – Section 8 - Online

Office Hours: MTWTh – 12.30- 1.30 pm or by appointment Course Description: Introduction to plane analytic geometry and basic differential and integral calculus with applications to various areas.

Textbook: Calculus and Its Applications 10/e by Marvin Bittinger, David Ellenbogen and Scott Surgent
Software Supplement: MyMathLab (Required)

You can purchase the access code ONLINE with a credit card or PayPal for $85.80 or purchase the access code at UMSL bookstore [as a standalone item] for $104 or get access code with the textbook and software bundle at University bookstore for less than $113.60. Since you can download the text from the MyMathLab website, it’s not necessary to purchase the bundle from the bookstore so that you can save some money.

Prerequisites: you must have:
1) A grade C- or better in Math 30; or,
2) A score of 26 or higher on either the ACT Math sub-test or the UM-St. Louis Math Placement Test.

If a record of your prerequisites is not in the UMSL computer system, you will be asked to provide verification by the end of the first week of the course.

Math Placement Test:

If, at the start of classes, you do not have the prerequisites for the course, you can still take the UM- St Louis
Placement Test
(1) It will be offered (free of charge) for certain dates and times; please look at http://www.umsl.edu/services/cad/testdates.html .
(2) In addition to this, students may take the UM-St. Louis Placement Test by appointment with the Academic Assessment Center (412 SSB). This will require a $5.00 fee. Students need to call 516-6396 for an appointment.

    4. Course Syllabus is on CourseStudios: Access online thru Portal at https://myportal.fhda.edu. Once there, click on Students tab. Under My Courses, open Go To My Courses and Instructor Email and find our class section and its CourseStudio. If you lack internet access, or are having issues with your computer, you may wish to use the Open Media Lab. The Open Media Lab has 100 computers available on the basement level of the library west building, and is open from 8-5 or 9-5 Monday through Friday. Students must have an ID card in order to print or use any of the computers in the lab. The computers run both Microsoft windows and Mac OS, enabling students to work with whichever format they prefer. Black and white printing is .10 / page, color is .75 / page.
