1.1 Explain the purpose and benefits of planning work, and being accountable to others for own work.
Planning is fundamental to time management and involves organizing and prioritising work. Having a visible and accessible plan allows for your line manager to see a quick overview of your daily tasks and allows them to check that you understand and are completing your work objectives. It also helps to agree timescales and goals, and helps with performance managing.
It better defines the course of action
It gives a rough estimate of the times required for any amount of work
A well thought out plan gives yourself and others a clear idea of what is to done throughout the day
Planning helps avoid the duplication of labour
It allows you to manage your time effectively to meet objectives and deadlines
It can also allow you to check that the resources you require are available and suitable for your use or particular projects, and take action if there are any problems
In my opinion, everything is made a bit easier if you establish what you are doing, to what standard and time.
Planning and organisational skills are vital for efficiency and success within your job; you have to be able to set and achieve targets, priorities and be able to help others do the same.
Prioritising targets and agree achievable timescales
I like to prioritise my work load by creating a master list, on which I write down every target that needs to be achieved. Starting with the highest priority and urgency and ending with the less urgent. I like to highlight any specific deadlines and set milestones along the way.
Classify your targets into those that are:
Both urgent and important (class 1)
Urgent (class 2)
Important (class 3)
Neither (class 4)
