A Personal Statement Of Purpose Of College

The purpose of college is not only to prepare yourself for a career after college but to discover what you are truly passionate about. As a freshmen student, I find it difficult to find something within the field of engineering that I want to make a career out of. Unfortunately, the limitations of fulfilling a required core curriculum and being overlooked by companies for an internship makes it hard for freshmen to test the waters and plan an academic and professional future. I feel studying abroad is one way in which I can learn about the different paths engineering can lead to, all while broadening my cultural horizons. I am particularly interested in this course because Italy and nuclear engineering are two things that I would like to explore.
My physics teacher in high school was stationed in Italy when in the Air Force. He would tell us how his favorite thing to do in Italy was to get on a train, fall asleep, then explore the small town he ended up in after waking up. Ferrara, Italy is a small town that offers a more authentic experience while the University of Ferrara offers insight on the world of nuclear engineering. For all of those reasons, I truly hope that this class can inspire future course works and professional tracks. My journey at UT has just begun, and I hope that this experience will enlighten my future and point me in the right direction.
