Strength
According to my performance on the
test. My greatest strength was formatting the paper. I have been utilizing the APA format since the beginning of my college career. In fact, it’s the only style that I have ever written in before, why is just one reason of why I’m so confused and disappointed that I scored so low. I answered all of the questions correctly that addressed how to format the paper such as the header, tittle page, and reference page. I felt like those were the easier question on the quiz because I have researched those particular questions in the past. When writing an APA format I don’t use any templates, I have been writing them for so long that I know how to format the paper without referencing anything. One advantage for me regarding writing my papers in APA format is that the format is strict. There isn’t ambiguity in the writing directions. Therefore it’s very productive as far as keeping a standard in academia.
Weaknesses
The test clearly highlighted my weaknesses. Every question that I answered incorrectly directly related to editing the sentences. I didn’t answer them all incorrectly, but every answer that I did answer incorrectly on the test was related to editing. This isn’t a shock to me because I have always struggled with editing my papers, which is why I purchased two proofreading programs grammarly and paper rater in order to assist me in editing. The only issue is that the programs don’t edit for APA format. They edit for traditional grammar mistake, without utilizing any specific format to include Chicago, APA, and Modern Language Association. One disadvantage for writing in the APA format is that it’s so complex. There are so many rules to the writing that it can be difficult to focus on the purpose of the paper. I spend about three times the amount of time proofreading my papers than I do actually writing them.
Writing Matters I’m hoping that this class will assist me I becoming a better writer. As a clinical psychologist it’s imperative to be able to communicate effectively through writing. In order to that the writing must be free of errors, well thought out and organized. For example, a psychologist may be involved in a custody dispute between two parents. If the psychologist writes that the mother fed the child snakes after school in the observational report. The parent may lose custody of the child, when the parent was just feeding the child snacks. Therefore the child would go live with the father, which may not be the best environment for him or her. Everything matters as a psychologist because they play a vital role in some people’s lives.
