ASM Task Committee On Microbiology In Nursing
I'm writing you to express my interest in becoming a member of the ASM Task Committee on Microbiology in Nursing. Although I'm not from the United States of America, I think this committee might profit from an European perspective and my experience, so I will use this opportunity to quickly introduce myself.

I'm a medical doctor and clinical microbiologist with a PhD in biomedical sciences, and after my doctoral degree I quickly became an assistant professor at the Department for Biomedical Sciences of the youngest Croatian public university - University North. There I'm currently working as a course coordinator for "Microbiology and Parasitology" course for undergraduate nursing students. This course (and the whole programme) is taught according

Nursing has evolved so much from its original intent. Nurses progressed from being classified as disorderlies to a well respected name in the health profession. However, even though nursing has come a long way, there are still more changes to come in relation to the shift of focus of healthcare from acute care to community health. As the US population continues to become diversified, nursing too will require adjustments to the ever-changing population. The health care system is now reforming to a prevention rather than cure model. With changes in the healthcare system and the population, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) developed a report depicting the need for nursing to be transformed in the areas of practice, education and leadership. I believe this report will have a strong impact on the future of nursing as it relates to expanding practice, furthering education and demonstrating leadership, all of which will enable a nurse to work at the maximum potential within their scope.…

Three of the most significant issues facing health care today include access to care, avoidable harm to patients, and the issue of antibiotic resistance. Nurses can be involved and play a large role in responding to these issues. Access to health care is an issue that has long been plaguing our health care system, and while the Affordable Care Act has aided this problem, there is more that can be done to benefit those who still lack access to care. Nurses are unique in the way that they can also act as primary care physicians after obtaining advanced education. If more nurses were to become advanced practice registered nurses, it could help alleviate the primary care shortage and improve access to care. Additionally, if one does not have a desire to become an advanced practice nurse, they could still help improve access to care by donating their time and working with outreach programs that work in areas that would usually lack health care, such as in rural or low-income…
