The two scenarios that I chose are as followed:

John- Anxiety Disorder- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

1. As his friend, what recommendations could you make in helping him reduce his anxiety?

I would suggest that he not make such a demanding schedule and to not put a time limit on the chores that he does every morning. I would help him realize that things do not always happen as one plans and it is not possible to stay on a pattern every single day with no interference.

2. What resources on the internet could John use to help him daily?

I would suggest that he search the internet for articles relating to strategies for coping with OCD and anxiety. Some websites even offer techniques to use to help you diminish your anxiety.

3. What might be some types of therapy for John to use to reduce his symptoms of compulsion?

I would suggest that he find a close relative or friend, one that he can confide in and explain his problem/s to them, if they do not understand then I would suggest that he explain what he goes through with them so that they have an idea and can come up with a plan for when he has really bad days. Also I would suggest seeing a doctor that specializes in this area, and maybe some medications.

Alice- Sleep Disorder- Insomnia

1. As Alice’s friend what strategies could you recommend to her towards alleviating her symptoms?

I would suggest to her to stop watching TV, or playing on the computer, and any other cause for distractions at least 2 hours prior to bed. Also, taking a bath in lavender would be a great idea to help relieve the stress, then maybe a cup of chamomile Tea about 30 minutes before bed. It has also been said to not have any TV going while you are sleeping, and even if you have a clock that has lights on it I suggest turning them away from you and making the room as dark as possible.

2. What resources are available to assist Alice in finding a

The treatment I would recommend Mr. X is cognitive-behavioral therapy. According to Beck most cognitive-behavioral therapy has been of the two best-known psychotherapies for unipolar depression (Beck). Cognitive-behavioral therapy will help Mr. X deal with his current problems. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a good way to help Mr. X evaluate how accurate his dysfunctional and negative beliefs of himself are. Cognitive-behavioral therapy will also uncover where his pessimistic beliefs are deriving from and how to change those beliefs. In addition, I would also like Mr. X to attend family and marital therapy. It appears that his symptoms had been present for years. This could mean that his family contributed to the offset of his depression.…

After reading all 232 pages of Disturbing Behavior: 53 Alarming Trends of Teens and How to Spot Them, its authors, Lee Vukich and Steve Vandegriff, has successfully enlightened me regarding disturbing behaviors teens undergo. This book is an essential to any Christian parent or youth worker since it covers issues that teens struggle with. Through 53 chapters, each one effectively discussed an issue a teen may be dealing with, Vukich and Vandegriff achieve their goal: “to raise awareness so when you [the reader] are faced with these issues, you will have a Reader’s Digest condensed version of what you are dealing with.” By using biblical stances and common sense, these authors cover major issues, alphabetically. Personally, these…

Based on the disease and stage presented in this case, Jim would require a tertiary level of care. At this moment, Jim needs tertiary care in order to receive and start treatment which will help him lead a quality life. Cognitive therapy includes a treatment called Exposure and Responsive Prevention (ERP) which focuses on exposing the person to images and situation that trigger their obsessions in order to confront the anxiety to replace the compulsion with better coping measures. According to the science of psychology one’s behavior needs to follow a certain criteria in order to be deemed “normal”. If one’s behavior does not match the criteria, their behavior is seen as undesirable and wrong (requires change). For this physiologists need to be able to view a person’s behavior and be able to tell the difference between normal and abnormal. Whilst defining the “normality” of ones behavior physiologists need to be careful to remain objective and as free of any bias as possible, furthermore their experiment to determine ones behavior needs to be repeatable and reliable.…

I can relate to this issue because I have trouble falling asleep myself when he is gone. I ask her how I can help her fall asleep faster or comfort her. She suggests she sleeps in my room a few nights a week to feel closer to her Daddy. I tell her I think we can work something out, but it will only be while Daddy is gone. I tell her she has to sleep in her own bed when Daddy comes back. That night she carried her blanket, doggie, and five other stuffed animals to my room. The most effective and most used treatments are cognitive therapy and behavioral therapy combined with medication. Behavioral therapy with medication has been the best offer in long term improvement. This variety of therapy involves an approach called exposure and response prevention. They expose you to your feared object or your obsession and then prevent you from performing your rituals or compulsion. During the course of treatment - usually 10 weeks - your symptoms gradually decrease in frequency and intensity. Studies have shown that 50-90 % of people improve with behavior therapy. [Source? MLA?]Cognitive therapy focuses on what a person is thinking and not what they are doing. It teaches you to define your thoughts and why you're thinking them so that you can better understand why you do things. It teaches you control over your thoughts. In the case of Jonathan his treatment was to make some large 9's on four pieces of paper and every treatment he would have to face them. The therapist would talk to him about how he felt and how he might manage through breathing and saying certain thoughts to himself. He would go home and practice doing the same. The cognitive therapy involved talking to Jonathan about how exactly his temper was going to go out of control, what exactly he thought he was going to do to people, and how unlikely it really was. These therapies are combined with medication to…

Out-of-character behaviours can occur because the person has a need that isn't being met or they cannot communicate. The behaviour will have meaning to the person. They might be in pain, be thirsty or hungry, maybe they misunderstood something or someone and feel threatened, or perhaps they are frustrated or under-stimulated. Dementia can make it hard for people to communicate, and this can be upsetting and frustrating for them and those around them. A person with dementia may have trouble finding the right word, they may repeat words and phrases, or may become 'stuck' on certain sounds. In addition, people with dementia are likely to have other sensory impairments (such as sight or hearing problems) which can also make it harder to communicate.…
