Action Plan
Action Plan

This essay will be discussing my action plan to create a successful band in the music industry. I will provide short, medium and long term action plans.

My short term action plan will mainly consist of creating online profiles and trying to get a bigger following through the internet. The main websites we shall be using are Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud and Youtube as I believe these website are the main way people learn and discover new music and to create a fan base. The Band will also be trying to get promotion on a website called Pitchfork as I have realised that a lot of new music is promoted on there and it would also give my ideal image if the band were to be chosen for promotion. Creating the bands own website will also be a possibility as this will enable me to promote my own image. On this the band will be able to provide free downloads of our own material.

My medium term action plan will consist of recording more content for EP’s and albums and getting onto distribution companies online to make my music easily accessible to iTunes, Amazon MP3 and eMusic. The band may use companies such as; CD Baby, TuneCore and ReverbNation. The band will also be trying to get known through gigging which the band will potentially do through local promoters, as we have realised this is another way in which people who prefer to listen to live music discover new music. Gigging around is also a good way to get spotted by A&R scouts. We will also be opting for charity gigs in order to gain more exposure. We will be trying to seek for a Manager to coordinate aspects of my career such as advise on signing to the right label, publisher and booking agent.

Finally, my long term action plan will provide me with signing to a record label, gaining a publisher and booking agent. These are important for as they will provide the band with professional and organised guidance. The main record label that the band would prefer to sign to would be Columbia

In the music industry, there have been many figures that have transformed the business, as we know it. Perhaps the most successful of these is Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid. Antonio Reid has been best known for his determination to strive for success. He exhibits an array of skills both in his musical talents and managerial flair. Having been exposed to both the singer/songwriter, and behind-the-scenes work since his roots in the industry, Reid has without a doubt grasped the music business in its entirety in a way in which no other person has. Displaying musical skill in vocals, piano, and percussion (Net Industries, 2011. Para8) as well as his outstanding ability to manage and multitask, describing himself as an “overachiever”(Norment, 2003. Para 8.), Reid fits all the requirements for a successful career in the music industry. However what set’s him apart from the rest, is his infamous ability know talent when he see’s it. Despite being unable to describe exactly how he obtained such a skill in the industry, stating, “It’s something that I feel when I meet an artist”(Net Industries, 2011. Para10), it is without saying that he has proven his ability to recognise star-quality when he can see it. This is evident through his countless triumphs in his career, discovering successful artists such as Toni Braxton, TLC, Usher and Pink, just to name a few. (Net Industries, 2011. Para10&11) Reid’s unique sense of knowledge in the music industry, along with his other attributes, distinguishes him from others in the music industry, and has helped his success. His passion for all genres of music, having grasped the importance of musical diversity, has set him apart from others in his line of work. Not only is this something that I admire in Reid, but also it is something that I wish to apply to my own career in the entertainment industry, and hope to obtain enough experience and knowledge to strengthen a sense of understanding of what can be successful music. I…

As for character of what I would bring to the band, I am laid back and easy going but I can be very strict when I need to. Whenever we aren’t doing something I usually chat or goof off, but when it’s time to begin, it’s time to settle down, so I center my focus and get right to work trying to get everyone to fall into line. I am very dedicated to music and band so there wouldn’t have to be any worries with my responsibilities for the band. Also, I don’t play any sports or do anything besides choir and band all year with the exception of musical in the spring and diff and AP…

Creating my career action plan is not the first step I will need to take to roadmap my way to goal achievement and career success. During its creation one can see that a career action plan I not just a one step plan but rather, one-step of several in a process.…

I organized the plan for creating my project in four steps. Step one was the research of my project and to get all the information, I needed in order to be prepared to start. Step two is setting up the timeline/guidelines which is basically setting up the dos and don'ts, this gives me a structure to workaround. Step three was to get the materials needed which would be the camera, the laptop, and that's about it because those are the two things I need to record and edit the video. Step four was to start my process, I will need to start recording and getting everything in place which is making the video/documentary. I need to research the following things to achieve my goal:how to make a documentary, the process of making a musical documentary, inside the musical mind, and The musical process.
