Airport security screening of head covering should be continued even if racial profiling may involved

A few months ago, the government in Ottawa had quickly canceled a new policy at Canadian airports that could make us safer when traveling by flight. The cancellation by government is based on the complaints from the World Sikh Organization. This is the head covering screening policy of the Canadian Air Transport Security (CATSA), the federal Crown Corporation is responsible

Public safety influences everyone in our society, including Sikhs. Once terrorist attack happens, everyone becomes vulnerable and threatened. In 1943, Abraham Maslow proposed a paper "A Theory of Human Motivation". Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory describes the pattern how human motivations generally move through, 5 stages are divided in a pyramid. The lowest one, which is the most essential and basic needs that strikes one’s motivation is “physiological need”, followed by "safety", "belongingness and love", "esteem", and "self-actualization". In Maslow’s theory, one is only capable to move up when the needs from the bottom are met. For example, if one is lack of biological and physiological needs, one must try one’s best to satisfy the basic needs than try to meet the second level, which is the need of safety. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs now is still being widely accepted by the generals and make a great impact to psychological filed. If we apply his theory to this topic (should racial profiling be accepted), we can easily find out that public safety is on biological and physiological as well as safety level, while the profits of individuals and religions refer to belongingness and love or esteem. The President of the World Sihk complained that they can no longer keep their religious identity intact when traveling because of the Head Covering Policy despite Sihks are not associated with terrorism. The inconvenience brought to Sikhs is totally understandable, nonetheless, to improve the security level of the airport is the “safety” need, traveling with the religious identity intact is the “esteem” need, and if a terrorist attack happens because of security problem, the targeted people can survive or not is the “physiological” need. If we do not exert our most effort to maintain public safety, innocent people may die from terrorist attacks. If that is happened, how can we

Racial profiling is supposed to be illegal but there are many cases that show that it is still happening in the United States. We have seen a lot of racial profiling since the events of 9/11 but African Americans have been racially profiled way before that event happened. I personally have been a victim of racial profiling and was pulled over for no apparent reason other than the fact that I was African American. Although I agree that the nation’s security is very important I don’t agree on signaling certain people out just because of their race. This is something that Whites would rarely if ever have to deal…

Now there are many reasons behind the establishment of this policy. One could say it is for uniformity in a military setting, which is understandable in regards to being “an Army of Professionals”, providing the people we protect with a sense of trust knowing that Service Members (SM) maintain a professional appearance. One could also say that this is for wartime efforts in regard to donning a Nuclear, Biological, Chemical (NBC) mask, which could also be included as being professional, especially to Host Nation (HN) or Local Nationals (LN). These are great alternative viewpoints and very justifiable means as to why the policy was/is implemented today.…

My thouths are, the agression to the individual race, nations groups is much more real than it seems and is directly related to what is happening in the country and how the government reacts to it. In this case country showed both sides of the face. On the one hand, life-threatening aggression and hostility towards the Sikhs, ( and all Arabic) allegedly justified by tragedy. On the other hand, the ability of people to empathize and unite to protect the innocent.…

On the ten year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Hebshi was racially profiled along with two other men. This is racial profiling because they were suspected of a crime from an official law enforcement agent due to their race. They were pulled off their flight, and she was ordered to strip naked, squat, and cough while an officer looked at her. Not only must this have been embarrassing, but it is completely unconstitutional and against our 14th amendments as U.S. citizens. Just because racial profiling is unconstitutional, it doesn’t mean it is illegal. Actually, Homeland Security created the 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration law. This is a problem because it leaves the door open to racial profiling.…

Racial Profiling is a controversial law enforcement practice that brings about numerous complex ethical and policy considerations. As defined by report for the Department of Justice (Tamir 2009), racial profiling is “any police-initiated action that relies on the race, ethnicity, or national origin rather than the behavior of an individual or information that leads police to a particular individual who has been identified as being, or having been, engaged in criminal activity.” Generally, the use of race in conjunction with other evidence has been a common method of investigation for law enforcement officials. However, the use of race in targeting potential suspects has been the center of a complex legal and ethical debate. Specifically, the debate surrounding racial profiling offers the issue of the proper use of race in targeting a suspect in a criminal investigation. Though the use of race can be important in investigative and law enforcement tactics, the practice of racial profiling leads to the potential of abusive actions by law enforcement in the pursuit of apprehending criminal suspects.…

Theoretically, racial profiling means safety precautions provided by the government aimed at certain ethnic/racial groups in order to keep the crime rate and a possibility of the terrorist attacks relatively low. This phenomenon has been ever-present in American society and had a lot of examples throughout the country's history. Even though racial profiling does not sound positive, it is still practiced against certain minorities in the US as a way to keep the country a secure place. However, there is a thin line between being cautious and harassing innocent people. No matter how noble the goal is, racial profiling cannot ever be justified.…

Racial profiling is a very widespread topic. Racial profiling is beginning to spread across the United States and many other countries as if a fire spread in a forest. It is important for us to understand that racial profiling is impractical and hurtful to the persons targeted. It is also important for people to recognize that racial profiling puts fear into people’s hearts and that can have an emotional impact on the way people think, act and even their character. Racial Profiling should be a exercise that should be ended in all places including the court system and law enforcement. One can come up with several illustrations declaring its advantages and disadvantages. Although racial profiling can be useful in certain cases it is incorrect…

These federal laws don’t apply everywhere, two examples of place that they wouldn’t be applied is border patrols at the country’s southwest boundaries as well as airline security. Twenty states don’t have laws against racial profiling because there is no uniform standard for police departments in communities. Profiling is beginning to cause arguments between law enforcement and pedestrians, one main topic is the new stop-and-frisk program. As the program continually increased the amount of fallouts the judge finally deemed the program to disturb the rights of the minority residents. France, is a highly populated area that also has many profiling concerns most concerning Arabs and blacks. These concerns were brought to court where they were then dismissed by a judge in…

This is why profiling a person on his or her behavior is a positive form of expression because by doing this, the person is being judged by his or her personality. For instance, in Linda Chavez’s article, “Everything Isn’t Racial Profiling” she states, “But I’m not opposed to allowing-no, requiring-airlines to pay closer attention to passengers who fit a terrorist profile, which includes national origin. The problem is distinguishing between what is permissible, indeed prudent, behavior and what is merely bigotry” (Chavez). Chavez here states that security on airlines should be conscious of a person’s origin; however that should not be a reason to stop them. They should pay attention to their origin but also on the person’s behavior throughout the process and the looks of the person. By looks, would be the person looks suspicious of committing a crime or anything (this discards the ethnicity of the…

The judging of an individual’s character by their race did not become relevant because of the Rodney King beating, the attacks on the World Trade Center, or the illegal aliens crossing the Mexican border. Racial Discrimination has been a reoccurring issue for centuries. Throughout time, these judgments and discriminations have led to unwarranted searches, racial riots and unjust prosecutions. Racial Profiling not only adds to this overwhelming issue but is upheld by the U.S. government and prominent leaders. Racial profiling has caused divisions between black men and the police, negative effects on immigration and race relations, and false imprisonment, further proving that racial profiling is not defensible public policy.…

“Most of the organizations of terrorists that threaten the nation today are based on an Islamic form of ideology that is primarily prevalent in Southeast Asia and Middle East.” (“Racial Profiling Pros and Cons”) Even if some terrorists from other countries have converted to Middle Eastern terrorist groups, you can still tell that something is up and something might be dangerous about those specific people. Using racial profiling is common sense. Searching these people even farther could save us in the long run. TSA agents not only have to just look at what that person is wearing, but they also can look at the boarding pass to see the passenger’s name. If our workers in airport security would take these cautions and procedures into consideration, we might save America from any major or minor terrorist attacks down the…

Our nation has been founded on the notion that all men are equal and should be treated as such.
