Alpha Phi Reflection
I hoped for a bid card from Alpha Phi for many reasons, but one of the most prominent was the values the Fraternity stands for. Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Loyalty, and Character Development are all values that are important to me. To begin, I exemplify sisterhood through many ways. It can be a bigger contribution, for example when I help my big push through her Nursing interviews and help her pick out her outfits, while quizzing her on the questions she may be asked. There are also small ways to practice sisterhood. Signing an email to a member of my department with AOE or sharing my umbrella with a sister on the way to class are small ways I practice sisterhood. It is one of my favorite Alpha Phi values because it is forming …show more content…
This is one of my favorite activities, and the opportunity was brought to me by my chapter. Additionally, I can be found practicing leadership through my position as the Merchandise Chairmen. I have worked so hard to do all my tasks in a timely manner. I know this position has helped me become recognized throughout my chapter as a confident and hard-working leader. I love to exercise loyalty by proudly wearing my letters and tabling during involvement fairs on campus. Telling the students at my University how much I love Alpha Phi and all it has done for me is so refreshing. Equally, I can bring this love to my hometown where I tell my family, friends, and coworkers all things my chapter works towards and all the fun we have! Finally, I exemplify character development in my chapter by networking with my sisters for resume-building opportunities. I received my internship, running social media for a local restaurant, through one of my sisters. This internship has strengthened my self-management and communication skills. The bond we have with our sisters helps us play to each others strengths and helps us teach each other to live a healthier lifestyle full of

My chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is Alpha Beta Zeta, located at Radford University. Each member is required to get 35 community service hours each semester. Service projects occur around the New River Valley and help a variety of community organizations. Because Alpha Phi Omega has a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, we host many projects that allow us to help them facilitate big events. Projects I have worked on include: cleaning a local daycare center, performing trail maintenance along a portion of the Appalachian Trail, collecting food for Meals on Wheels, raising money for different causes, running youth programs for Boy Scouts and 4-H events, cleaning our Adopt-A-Spot, beautifying local parks, and many other programs. Over the…

In my Sigma Chi career, the most contribution I've made is owning every position that I've held. Up until my term, no one had ever done anything with the positions of Tribune/Public Relations. In my tenure, I started a bi monthly alumni newsletter, and completely redesigned our website. We were able to better involve alumni in chapter operations as well as increased our web traffic six-fold. In Quaestor, I was able to redesign how we operated collections from brothers. With this we were able to utilize apps on phones for brothers to pay dues and other chapter expenses, this led to high collection rates and the ability to pay off a $8,100 RMF bill in one semester, all the while staying in budget constraints; this had never been done before.…

My academic, professional and social skills have increased immensely since I have begun this program. Through this process I have gained a deeper understanding of what this chapter has to offer me. Primarily, a network of men with similar goals and similar backgrounds determined to develop each other. Learning is a lifelong process, and to join this network I would have access to unrivaled mentorship and experience. Furthermore, I would have the opportunity to give the same mentorship back to the newer members of the organization. Lastly,…

There are many reasons why I want to become an Auror leader, my number one reason is because I frankly feel that my experience in Ursa changed me as a person and I want to continue the personal growth that Aurora has started while helping new students experience the same growth that I did. I have always been dedicated to helping those who are younger than myself. In high school I was on the track team and one of my favorite things to do was to mentor the first year athletes. By doing this I would show my younger teammates correct technique, and how to prepare for meets physically as well as mentally. Now that I am in college I love to help kids from my highschool who are interested in Penn State. I show them around campus, and I gave them…

As quite the introvert, I never would have imagined myself as the secretary of such a renowned organization: the National Honor Society. However, I had decided to take on the challenge of running for board, requiring me to give a speech to our 500+ NHS members. My strengths did not lie in public speaking or persuasion like the other candidates. Instead, my speech involved me singing Mulan’s “Be a Man,” using ingenuity and humor to win over opinions. I believe that pushing yourself into an unfamiliar situation is the best way to learn and grow, as this approach demands problem solving and innovative thinking. NHS has pushed me to be more outgoing and active in the community by giving me the privilege of leadership, and I would definitely serve…

I continued to build on this by becoming a student ambassador, where I spend either 4 hours or even the entire night with a prospective student, showing them the campus and all of the glorious opportunities here. As a result of this personal growth, I was privileged to be selected as one of the inaugural shift leaders at Alumni Gym. I am now one of the point-men for any questions or concerns relating to the gym. By becoming an RA I hope to continue this personal growth, becoming more and more well-versed and meeting more and more people on Union’s campus. Additionally, I will be gaining critical skills that I believe will enable me to be successful in life particularly being a leader around students that are either my age or not much older or younger. I anticipate many issues, especially relating to having to be the smart person when my peers are being unintelligent and ensuring the safety of everyone else in my building and around campus. However, in order to grow, one must be faced with challenges, and it is how that individual confronts those challenges that determine how that individual will grow. The leadership opportunity that the RA position provides not only will provide me with immense growth, but will allow me to…
