Animal Testing Is Cruel
Animal testing has been going on for years and an estimate of 26 million animals in the United States are used for animal tests. And that could extremely harm the animals that are being tested. Animal testing is cruel because testing animals is harsh, drugs that are pass by animal test aren’t safe, and could mislead researchers with cures or treatments.
In the first place, testing animals is harsh and wrong. Some experiments involves force feeding animals, water deprivation, and forced inhalations. Also when animals are being tested they have to suffer from excruciating pain during experiments. Which is very wrong to leave them suffering from testing a drug that could also kill them. Yet, there’s test where about 50% of animals that have
been tested die for chemical.
At the same thing, drugs that are pass by the animal test are not safe. For example Thalidomide a sleeping pill cause over ten thousand birth defects for humans and when they tested it with animals they did not have any birth defects with the same drug. Also Vioxx gave mice that was tested a protective effect on their hearts, but caused twenty thousand heart attacks for us humans. Another example is over 85 HIV vaccines failed in humans but was successful in animals.
In addition, animal test could mislead researchers with cures and treatment. Chemicals that are helpful in humans are harmful to animals which ends up harming one or the other. Thus, in 2006 researchers noticed that a drug cause major problems with the tested animals but have no effects in humans and could up killing innocent animals that were tested. Finally, over 95 percent of drugs that are tested in animals pass but was unsuccessful in humans.
Therefore, animal testing has saved many lives with cures and treatments. Yet drugs that are passed by animal tests are not safe. Although animals have tested many types of drugs that have been successful. Not all of the drugs that are passed aren’t safe for humans nor animals.
