Finding cures or treatments for humans is a vital part of life but not at the cost of sacrificing the lives of other animals and the future of their species. Animal testing to find cures is wrong and causing more deaths of animals every day. Researchers have shown that when putting animals in harm’s way it is beneficial to humans but also killing the animals. Many drugs that are used in experiments on the animals are aspirin, and Tacrolimus, which was used to lower the risk of organ transplant rejection. Many researchers have doubts about the drugs because it was taken off the shelve due to the harmful effects it has on …show more content…
The AWA protects animals from experiments but doesn’t cover rats, mice, fish, and birds which is composed over 95% of the animals used in research. In 2010, 1,134,693 animals were covered under the AWA, but it also left around 25 million other animals that were not covered. Without the protection of the AWA most of these animals would be vulnerable to mistreatment and abuse.
Animal tests are expensive than other alternative methods and also a waste of researcher’s and governments money. When there is an unscheduled DNA synthesis animal test, the costs are around $32,000, while the in vitro alternative costs $11,000. A rat photo toxicity test costs $11,500, where non-animal tests cost $1,300. Testing on the animal’s costs lots of money, that can be used for more important things that is going on with the world today. Researchers are only allowed a $31 billion annual budget on animal research, which should not be allowed to hurt
