Vincent is a 17-year-old senior at St. Raymond High School. Vincent’s occupations consist of sports and academics. Vincent lives with his parents, a fifteen-year old sister and two brothers of the age of fourteen and ten. Vincent is a role model to his brothers and sister because he will be the first in his family to graduate from high school. One of Vincent’s strengths is his determination and his ability to not give up on his goals. He will do whatever it takes to accomplish the goals he sets up for himself. Although he wears a uniform he makes sure that he is clean shaved and has a nice haircut because after school, him and his friends go to the all girl schools. This demonstrates social development adolescent his age boys this age develops an intimate relationship with girls, show social skills with the opposite sex in a safe manner. Vincent stating that he need to make sure he has a nice hair and clean shave shows that he is a little self –absorbed which is normal for a typical child his age. Vincent was very open with me during the interview. At times, he would lose focus and start to talk about sports rather than school related questions. Vincent seemed much more hesitant when I asked questions that required him to describe himself. When I asked Vincent to describe himself he responded “I see myself as a leader. I cannot show weakness because then people will not respect me”. Vincent demonstrates adolescent type of identity development. Vincent feels other people are constantly evaluating him. I felt a little uncomfortable with the interview because it was my first time doing it. When Vincent arrived at the pizza shop, based on his body language, Vincent appeared comfortable. He had good eye contact throughout the interview and was open to answering the questions that I had for him. During the interview, Vincent expressed his love for soccer and it so happens I play soccer to. He then became more open with me because he felt like I was able to relate to him. Prior to the interview, I read over the questions in order to provide a better flow and avoid awkward silence. I also practiced my body language and my tone of voice. I feel like I was well prepared for the interview. Something I would do differently is picking a quieter environment because at times the coming in/out of people from the pizza shop was a little distracting at times. My observations of non-verbal body language were that when I asked him questions about his goals I could see that moved his fingers a lot, also when I asked questions about school I could see his eyes open up and be very excited to answer questions based on school. What I found most difficult was trying to make the interview go in a nice flow, and for me to use the right wording so that person may be able to understand the questions.
