If communities take vacant areas and turn them into community gardens, the amount of urban blight would be lowered and there would be an increase of fresh produce grown in these urban areas. Though there are costs to creating community gardeners, the benefits outweigh them. “This program will be a win for gardeners, property owners and, most importantly, neighborhoods across this County that stand to benefit from an increase in access to healthy fruits and vegetables; the creation of new green, open spaces; and renewed neighborhood pride generated from beautiful community garden projects”(Transforming Urban Blight into Community Gardens). The opportunity to take an abandoned area and transform it into something that can be substantial to the environment and create a positive impact is something schools and neighborhoods should be engaging in
