Everywhere you go there's always someone on an electronical device. Whether they are checking the time on their phones or playing video games, it all contributed to screen time. As we spend more time using electronics, the less time is spent interacting with other people. Screen time is taking us away from our social lives. “I am constantly finding my sons or my husband decked out in full video game gear, playing some game that involves shooting people. I can just stand there or say hello, and they would just grunt and barely seem to acknowledged my existence” (Barbara Kaneshiro). Screen time is just making us non physically socially, and is causing us to loose interactions with other people. Using screen time does not contribute to the benefits of our health because it can cause problems like mixing sleep patterns, causing obesity, and can do many other unhealthy things. As much as screen time is addictive, it is also taking a big health risk. According to Maddison Foley, professor at Harvard University, the more screen time used, the more disrupted teens sleeping patterns are. Additionally, some teens spend many hours playing videogames and watching TV. Many teens feel the need to always be constantly connected in their social life on a screen. Around the teenage years, sleep is the one of the most important, beneficial, things our bodies need, but if sleep is always disrupted with electronics, we are increasing the risk of health problems like obesity, and decreasing the thing teenage bodies need most, sleep. Dianne Garcia shares a little about how her daughter and her friends sleep. “I come home from work late that night, the night my daughter and her friend were having a sleepover, to find both the girls laying on the floor, on top of their phones so whenever they get a notification, they can check their phone.” Screen time is causing major, problems for all people who are addicted to an electronical device.
